Nice article. Triple A games are costing far too much to produce these days.

The 'video games crash' of the early eighties only trully affected North America console market, and although the European console market suffered as a result, we were already well underway with our own 'Home Computer' market, thanks to companies like Sinclair and Commodore.

The fact that some companies have fallen by the wayside is that in the 'current economic climate', you can't get away with making bad games anymore. Some bad judgements were made by software houses in backing the PS3 as their platform of choice, and when the early sales didn't reach expectations then heads rolled. Companies are tightening the purse strings all over the place, not just video games manufacturers.

I don't think any of this will lead to another crash. Bobby Kotick should be made to answer for his crimes against decent franchises though. The man has perfected his skill for wringing every last drop of cash from a franchise, then leaving it limp and broken in the gutter.

I wish I never tried using guitar hero - I ought to be spending additional time together with my own family but it is just too much fun.
