Midlife Gamer has been given early access to upcoming From Software title 3D Dot Game Heroes and needless to say we’ve ploughed quite some time into this latest action RPG from the makers of Demon’s Souls.
Instead of grim medieval fantasy, this time the developers have gone for a neo-retro, 8-bit world that serves as a love letter to gaming’s heritage. As you’ll see from these screen grabs, it’s very much a unique looking experience that stylistically falls half way between classic NES-era Zelda clone and the result of what LEGO would make, were they ever to make a JRPG.
Another feature we’re keen to explore more of is the character creator / editor. You’re given access to the title’s complete roster of character builds, or a blank slate should you so desire and given the chance to go as wild as your imagination. With the tool set you can build just about anything to represent you on screen, from a fantastical knight, a sultry maiden, a pixel perfect rendition of yourself, or a visual representation of Midlife Gamer’s trademark biscuit and beverage phenomenon…
Check back with Midlife Gamer on April 19th when we’ll have our full review.
