Having just been shown at EA’s press conference at E3, Bulletstorm now has a set release date of February 25th 2011. Developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, and published by EA games, Bulletstorm promises frenetic, fast and frantic game play, awarding players who can “kill with skill” to rack up skill points. The more points that are amounted, the more upgrades and weapons can be unlocked, affecting the game play even further with even more chances of brutal finishes.
The system reminds me of Bizarre Creations’ The Club which employed the ‘Kudos’ system to award stylish kills. Shown on stage, the game play looked bloody, brutal and violent- neatly showing off its gun play, in addition to its unique kick, slide and leash mechanics- like Resistance blended with DICE’s flailing arms and legs in Mirror’s Edge almost.
The over-the-top action will take place on a futuristic utopia in which civil war is being kept at bay by an elite peacekeeping corporation. Deceived by their leaders, two mercenaries break ranks, with only two objectives to accomplish – get off the planet, and kill the man who sent them there. It’s stupid and outrageously dumb, but mayhem is guaranteed from start to finish for sure. I have my reservations like many people will – can the game sustain its length with such a shallow gimmick? We’ll see next year.
Bulletstorm will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on February 25th 2011.
