We’ve recently been treated to a number of short film tie-ins with videogames, most notably Ubisoft’s superbly produced Assassins Creed: Lineage that was released in October of last year as a precursor to the second game in the series. More recently, the Red Dead Redemption short film by John Hillcoat (director of last year’s The Road), created solely in-engine of Rockstar’s Western epic. It comes at a time when videogames and film coerce and meld into each other in a cross-medium melange.
And with that thought comes Capcom- intent on broadening their audience for its key franchises- confirming that they are working on a film, entitled Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, that is inspired by the Dead Rising series of games (currently on its second iteration) and will “pay homage” to the classic zombie movies of the 1960s and 70s. Written and directed by Keiji Inafune (Global Head of R&D at Capcom), the film is to be distributed for residents of North America and Europe this summer for free, digitally, and in a series of eight episodes.
