Side scrolling beat em-up’s are certainly nothing new, but they have most definitely been out of favour recently, with graphical prowess and unique game play being the key for success. However, PSN and XBLA have bred innovation, as well as revivals of classic genres- and it’s here where developer Punchers Impact propel their latest title, that combines the world of comics with the sport of Mexican wrestling, ‘Lucha Libre’.
Lucha Fury will give players the option to play as any one of its four unique characters, each in acquisition of their own special abilities, in the idiosyncratic plot that sees the four young wrestlers on the pursuit to uncover the conspiracy at the heart of the mysterious shortage of their beloved energy drink.
Up to four players online or offline can experience the cooperative progression through the story at any one time, with unique finishers available for singular use, or in the game’s enhancing “multiplayer combo mode” that allows more than one enemy to team up to take down enemies in devastating finishers. With its distinctive and absolutely gorgeous 2D art backdrops and detailed sprites adding beauty to the refined game play, there’s every chance that Lucha Fury will be a prosperous experience.
Lucha Fury will be available on PSN in Q4 2010, with an early 2011 release slated for the PC.
