Expansions to MMO’s are always nice. They’re even nicer if they’re free however, and NCsoft seem to understand this, unveiling the official release date for Aion‘s highly anticipated expansion Aion: Assault on Balaurea – which they revealed is due for release on September 7th – for absolutely nothing. And although free, it needn’t mean any lack of content, the new expansion allowing players to team up together to take on the Balaur, whilst new instances and zones have also been added, as well as an increased level cap, new skills and weapons.
Not keen to disregard their other franchises however, NCsoft and ArenaNet have also announced the first novel in the Guild Wars series of books is set for release on July 27th. Written by Matt Forbeck and Jeff Grubb (whose blog details the process of writing the novel), Ghosts of Ascalon is set a year before the beginning of Guild Wars 2 and deals with the “tentative truce between man and charr”.
An excerpt from the Ghost of Ascalon novel, as well as further information, can be found on the GOA official home page. For more information on Aion and its expansion, go to www.aiononline.com
