While thinking about my game of the year nominations for Cynical Hunters post i started to think about the number of games i have bought this year that have been substanded for me. embarassed

By substanded i mean for example Brink ( just unplayable in any form on online from day one ) Test Drive Unlimited 2 ( could i bollocks manage to meet any one online to race for the first month or so. ) Dead Island ( Buggy again but give them their due they have seem to have done their best to address it with holding the DLC back.)

Im sure there are  alot more games out there that have effected every one else in differant way's but do you think as gamers we should expect a lot more from our games if we are forking out £40-£50 or are we just used to the fact that this shit just happens and i should stop moaning and just get on with it?

I look forward to every one's views and dodgy game stories.

I think games are good value considering the amount of work that goes in to them compared to 10 years ago when new pc games were I think still around £30 for example.

Games do seem to be more buggy but then again the amount of things in games like skyrim makes that inevitable.

Not bought any games i didn't like for ages, did dislike fallout 3 at first but grew on me alot and now playing fallout NV which is  still buggy frown. One of the first missions had 2 npcs freeze in place and be unkillable rendering the mission unfinishable but its still a damn good game.

I remember that Street Fighter 2 for the mega drive cost £60.

Was that maybe 15 years ago. Things are not that bad because even though FIFA retailed at around 55 quid it would need to reach £100 to be the same in todays money.

Anyways I felt at the time that Street fighter 2 was value for money, considering the enjoyment i got from it. The only other way I could play the game was to go down to the local bowling alley and play it on the arcade. Which would take money per go. In this case a product that is scarce will cost more, plus cartridge games were more expensive to make. So there are understandable reasons for the price. They also knew they had the best game of the generation. That said it grated that it was 20 quid dearer than other releases just because it was street fighter.

Today, I am playing Skyrim, and its a wonderful game, everything I wanted it to be and more. Its a pity the more happens to be laggy slow saves and now all my resistance magic has disappeared. I saw Oli post that there was no way this could be game of the year because of these problems and I wholeheartedly agree with him. Even if it gets fixed tomorrow it won't be for me. These problems should be sorted out before release. the fact that they are not suggests it was rushed, and it was rushed then for the christmas market. And that screams of making the most profit. I have no problem with companies trying to make profits but not at the expense of the product itself. You wouldn't buy a jumper that had a whole in it with an IOU note from the manufacture that they would finish it off at somepoint in the future. crazy.

The fact that many games have come out this year which have been clearly unfinished is a sorry state of affairs. However, you have to ask who is to blame for this – the developers or the publishers? I doubt the former want their reputation, or their product, to suffer as a result of rushed release and I'm sure many of the devs would have preferred to have held their games back rather them throw them onto the shelves.

On the flip-side, their are many games that offer tremendous value for money when you consider the components that they contain (singleplayer, co-op, multiplayer, replayability etc.). I would personally pay more than the rrp for FIFA for the sheer amount of comtent and playtime it offers over a year, and I'm sure many other franchise fans would say the same about thier favourite game. When you consider the price of other forms of entertainment (cinema, I'm looking at you!) I think gaming offers great pounds to hours of pleasure ratio.

Unless you bought Homefront.

I think Lebowski makes a great point about a jumper with a hole in it. But would it be a valid reson to return a game because the online co-op didnt work? I think it would but i doubt any retailer would see it that way.

SHIT Craigie i had forgotten about buying Homefront. DOH!
