I think you need to be a masochist to play it.
I watched the Giant Bomb Quick Look and it looks insanely hard.

Preordered the 360 version this time around.
And having the side by side compair on the floor of Eurogamer, 360 looked more sharp,
confirmed me on that decision.
It's not so dark/gloomy as in the PS3 Vers. But it also could have just been the telis.
But it is a must have, this and Skyrim for sure.
Best regards

I never really got on with Demon Souls, because it was harder than a Gangster Tortoise!
But saying that this one looks amazing so i think ill have to man up.
Something about the checkpoints and open world makes this game look 10,000% better. That and the original looking monsters.

By golly, this game is hard. Its a bit like knocking against the perineum. You know the joy is there, but its going to take a lot of poking about to find it! I am maybe 2 hours in, and have found a decent area to farm, which in any normal rpg would signal the immenent end of my interest, but for what ever reason, I find Dark Souls utterly compulsive. Often, I run into an enemy which kills me in one hit… I dont get annoyed however, because I know, in 10 hours, I've going to be leveled, and skilled enough to kick the son of a bitches arse.

Hahaha Well said.
I am at least 2 hours in but been farming some delicious XP/Souls for about 3 hours.
I had trouble to begin with accepting death and not being too precious with my Souls.
I remember seeing a big enemy and for some reason thinking i could take him. I ran up behind him and my sword barely made his huge head jolt forward. He turned around and put his sword so far up my characters ass he barely had anywhere to hold the grip.
But saying that when you fell a huge enemy its fantastic.

Right then..im 9 hrs in and loving it.Im rocking this on the PS3 by the way and ive just beat the Bell tower gargoyles..god this game is so good but surprisingly im finding it easier than Demons Souls..im only soul lvl 22 and im finding im not really needing to grind for souls at all.I am rocking an awesome sword which im not going to spoil how to get it but believe me its helped me so much..its lvl 200 and can be found in the first few hours..over all its way better than Demons souls in my opinion…right ive rung the bell tower and now im heading down into the catacombs and it will probably be the last time il see the sun for a long time..

I'm about Lv.35.
I was showing a cousin how hard it was, this turned into a 13 hour marathon fueled with popcorn beer and plenty of cigarettes.
This game is amazing!
We kept running into bosses that where too hard and running away from them, But we would only stumble on a harder enemy.
But my cousin killed the shop keeper that forges items by mistake. FOOL!

Ive found the bosses so far not too bad..the one on the castle wall,1st boss i think,i killed in under a minute..and the gargoyles can be done in under a minute also..1st time..but you need to call in another human or a npc..fantastic game so far and cant wait to see whats around the next corner.

I'm about 12 hours in now, rocking it on the PS3.
Red dragon down
Gargoyles down
Hydra in darkroot basin down
Gaping dragon down
Around level 35 and rocking the drake sword and eagle shield found in Blightown. Had a bit of a mishap when I went all the way down the scaffolding, found myself in a poisonous swamp with no flask left, ran away from giant ogres rolling boulders and ran into the bossfight of a giant spider lady thing. Lost 15k souls to her but the items I picked up were invaluable. Oh cocks, I just remembered I left 2 humanity on that corpse too.

lvl 27 and just entering Blightown..lost 3 hrs game time and thousands of souls due to getting cursed. That so far is the hardest part of the game..nearly put the pad through the tv.ggrrrhh..what ever you do avoid the frog things down in the Depths..loving the game though and just dispatched the boss just before Blightown with the help of 2 other players and we took him out quite easily..so please be warned..AVOID THE FROGS.

Yep I ended up cursed from the frogs. Grinded about the burg to get the 6000 souls to uncurse. Went back in and took them bastard frogs down, got a nice ring that gives health back for every mob killed.

Those fucking skeletons keep kicking my arse, but I keep going back to try again.

Its only 3000 souls to uncurse if you see the chappy up in the bell tower…and I'm not going anywhere near the frogs…balls to the ring..

Dark Souls. Like being punched in the groin by a super model, who then kisses it better.
Dark souls. Like feeling a unexpected lump, But then finding its actually a pound coin hidden in your pocket.
Dark souls. like falling off a bike onto your face, but then developing new savant type abilities one week later.
Dark Souls. like biting into an apple and finding only half a worm, Then developing super powers changing you into 'Worm Boy"
What a great game!

I'm Lv.71 and at least 34 hours in.
Im quite lucky because i started playing it when a cousin was around and before we knew it we where taking turns a few hours each. We have pulled Two 13 hour marathons and other bits by me here and there….. In other words its long.
A guide can be helpful its a bit late for me as i've only just found it but might help the confusion a little.

Oh jesus christ. I feel Reborn. Nestled in the bosom of Dark Souls.
What is this strange glow in the sky?
Who are all these other Non-Hollow people wandering around just flaunting their 'Humanity'?
70+ Hours in and just stumbled on a exploit for quadrupling the potency of soul items.
On the last stretch. Three main Bosses then off to the big 'ol' Badass at the bottom.
Hows everybody else getting on then?

Badly Grinded up to level 12 before trying the taurus ? demon, fourth try had him down to under 10% and got overconfident and died then went back and died to the skele's on the tower losing all my souls, was not a happy bunny.
Not sure if i'm actually enjoying the game, its too damn stressful

Hahaha, I know what you mean. it does get easier little tip if you are having a tough time, You can get a few cheap souls in dark root basin (forest). About three people jump off a cliff if you stand in a certain spot getting 2,000 each enemy. Im sure there are you tube vids. I found it while running away like a wimp. XD
Good luck!

Trying not to look at too many guides, not with much success tbh Boss down on second try tonight, decided better actually use those resin things rather than carry them all through the game.
Damn you dark souls why can't I stop playing you.

I dont blame you to be honest.
With so many good games on the horizon its hard to justify a 80 hour time sink.
maybe one for a rainy day next year for most people.

I know a few of my friends who've sold this on purely for the sake of time. Yes, it's a looooong game but better that considering we'd normally complain if a game only had an 8 hour campaign.
Personally, I'll keep playing it in drips and drabs just like I did with Demon's Souls….should last a couple of years at my current rate!

Also playing in small chunks atm, its a bit much for me to play for prolonged periods .
Though had a complete omg moment earlier, decided to test the bell gargoyles with just basic gear no summons to see what they were like ( taking my time with this game) and killed them, was utterly stunned . Spent the day in a very good mood .

I stopped getting messages the other night, but the game had signed me out but was still online on the Psn.
Love the game and then hate the game. I need more patience lol
