Took down the gaping dragon tonight. Gave up on trying to get close to cut off his tail and found the best approach was a lot of running away and chipping away at it with my trusty crossbow Ventured into Blighttown picked up some armor and soon found myself heavily poisoned and eventually dying… fun rofl

Blighttown is a bit grim yes (like the Valley of Defilement from Demon's Souls) and it gets worse once you're at ground level (constant flies and poison). As you say, rusted ring is essential down there and it gets a lot better once you've done the second bonfire in the sewer tunnel down below, unless that's the one you've lit (did you enter via the Valley or the sewers?).

You're very near your second bell now.

I see. You went in through The Valley of Drakes and went down that rickety lift didn't you? I went the opposite way and came down from the very top which leads to the Gaping Dragon and the Blight Town sewers (i.e. where currierox is right now – see post above yours).

In that case, I wouldn't worry about making your way up to the other bonfire (if you want to though, head left out of your bonfire and follow the wall clockwise until you find the other way up, i.e. away from the lift which you took down there).

Instead you should really head right out of your bonfire and follow the wall anticlockwise (past the lift) until you see a big mound guarded by some big jockers who lob rocks at you. In a hole in that mound near the top middle is the lair of the next boss and is also where the second bell is for you to ring.

Thanks for that systems..well tonight ive just finished a 7 hr session on it and I did light the other bonfire and did manage to take out the witch Quelagg…managing to collect loads of souls and stuff along the way…what a hateful place Blightown is..I then discovered my bonfire had gone out at FireLink shrine..so I popped over to my next nearest bonfire and paid a visit to my local smithy and upgraded everything to +6 and my Drake sword to +1..I then managed to take out the Moonlight butterfly and then took a stroll past the Hydra opening up a nice shortcut in the process…by this time I looked up at the clock and 5 hrs had passed so I decided to take a quick break and make a cuppa and decide where to go next..Sens Fortress..omfg..them lizards are w######..managed to fall off a ledge down into a hole with 2 mini bosses..ffs..sorted them out and I was lost with no Estus flasks..oh wait there's a ladder over there..guess what was at the top…a big mini boss thing..guess what..I killed him with the last swing of my sword..I was lost and near death..didnt have a hope in hell of getting out of there alive..but then I noticed the best thing I've seen in the game since I started this journey..a stunning view and stunning sunset..wow it looked beautiful..and more than that it made me feel safe..something I've not felt in this game since the beginning of my journey..brilliant…just bloody brilliant.. I'm off to bed now..my head hurts.

Bloody hell that's a good session you've had there. Cracking progress.

So you've done the witch, that's good. A nice little fight and the bell to ring is right behind her (which summons some interesting help for you in the flooded church back at basecamp). You very wisely came back out though and didn't head downwards into the lava pits as it's really hardcore down there. Also note that there's an extra level hidden in the tree in the swamp…

A bonfire has gone out for you has it? That means you rescued the dude in the locked room upstairs in the big cathedral I seem to recall. He goes around putting them out which is nice of him. I killed him (remembering what Yurt does in Demon's Souls) but in the long term it's better to let him live and just rekindle the fires as you get better stuff off him ultimately.

Moonlight Butterfly is a non-event really. At the foot of the stairs you can summon a mage so I didn't even land a blow during that fight I just stood and watched (I'm a temple knight with no ranged attacks longer than a halbard).

There is a lot of lovely stuff in Blighttown, especially a farming heaven bonfire which you'll use later in the game for farming humanity (from rats) and stones (from slimes). Alas the best stuff is right in the depths surrounded by frogs which curse you (very difficult to kill in melee – I had to lob firebombs at them).

Sen's Fortress is short and sweet, you'll easily do that in a single session.

And yes, it is quite a morale boost to get back to the surface and see the sun again. There's a covenant you can join which gives rewards for praising the sun (hence all the markers saying "praise the sun"). http://darksoulswiki.wikispace…..f+Sunlight

I'm really going balls deep in this game now..I'm level 43..all my sorcerers equipment is up to +8 and my Drake swords up to +2..but I'm seriously getting my ass kicked in Sens fortress.Got up on the roof once only to get jumped by an undead knight..but saying that this game is really special..

Nice work. Drake's Sword is a lifesaver early on but I wouldn't spend another dragon scale on it to make it +3 as there is better stuff to spend it on in the late game. Also, you need them to improve your ranking in The Path of the Dragon. There are 10 dragon scales in the game, plus a chance of random drops of them only in The Valley of the Drakes.

I like the look of the sorcerer but it looked a bit complex to me so I went with the trusty temple knight. You know where you are with full plate and a greatsword.

You're not far from the end of Sen's as the boss is on the roof, as is the shop. Just play it cool.

Anor Londo is a cracking sight and no mistake. And there's a lovely bonfire right near the start. Not only that, it's pre-kindled for you up to 10 flasks I seem to recall. And you can get some farming done on those big knight guardians.

I wouldn't go too far in though without bringing your Peculiar Doll with you, as otherwise you'll have to come back again. (see http://darksoulswiki.wikispace…..uliar+Doll).

As for sword advice, there's a nice Fire Claymore under the Red Dragon back in the main area. However, you're probably better off with the Lightning Spear which you found in Sen's Fortress. It does masses of lovely lightning damage and you can attack behind a shield with it.

If you're willing to grind a bit, get ANY curved sword up to +10. At the end of Anor Londo you'll be able to make the Fury Sword. http://darksoulswiki.wikispace…..+Furysword

Just make sure you get that Doll and keep it on you for the whole time you're at Anor Londo. Saves you doing it all twice.

As for other matters:

  • Have you unlocked the glowing door in the woods and got the Stone Armour suit? It's well worth it and the cost of the door seal pays for itself many times over.
  • Have you returned to the dead-end area behind the hydra for the "pink golem" bonus? http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards…../675412625
  • Is Sif the wolf dead yet? You can leave that for it a bit but it is a plot mission.
  • Which covenant are you a member of? The default one or have you changed?
  • Have you unlocked the shortcut in the woods near the hydra back to the taurus fight tower?

After leaving this game alone for abit due to them 2 ########s in Anor Londo..i decided to have another crack at it today.Right ..first thing was to go harvest some humanitys down in the Depths..then head back and try and get a few human players to help out.Managed to call in 2 knights and dispatched both the bosses in a few minutes..thank god for that.I then get the ability to warp between bonfires..cant tell you how much better it makes the game. Im now in the catacombs..ive just got to soul level 62 and im 42 hrs in.any tips from here on are most welcome.

Catacombs is fine assuming you've got the glowing helmet thing. Otherwise it's a bit dark and scary.

Definitely don't go back to the spider boss and head down into the lava – that's for much later on.

Have you cleared out the Valley of the Drakes? That might be a nice diversion for you. Entrances are in Blighttown (up the lift from the bottom) or in the woods (hidden under a ledge on hill before crystal golems).

Otherwise the only realistic choice is to take the lift down from the starting hub, but it's full of ghosties who you can only see if you're cursed.

Oh, and don't forget to feed the tentacled thing in the pool with all your junk.

Have you done the Duke's Archive yet? Or does that not open until placing the Lordvessel? Can't remember lol. Be warned about the first time you meet Seath The Scaleless, though, he can't be killed until later, so make sure to wear a sacrifice ring. I lost over a million souls on that encounter.

Love this game,

I've left it on the last lvl as I got tired of dying all the time and having to go through it all again. Just to get killed again.

How are you fairing now?

I'm thinking of doing a new PVP or PVE Chr… but not sure i can take it again lol on the harder lvl.

Must say this game was better than Skyrim for me and I love Skyrim. The Witcher 2 just doesn't do it for me like these these two games.

Did you harvest the plp just inside the door in the garden, you get around 5-7000 soul each time. Not much use tho if you lvls are above 40+ now, i guess, but you can always pop back for some easy souls. And if you make a new Chr its a good way to get to lvl -50ish which is where most PVP hang out.

I'm on 360 if you need a hand.

The Dukes's archives opens up after you place the Lordvessel, yeh. For me, Seath was probably the hardest boss in the game. I had to use more attempts on Ornstein and Smough, but at least I felt I was making a dent in them. smile

I'd like to start a new character and explore the multi player side of this game.

Would anyone like to help or join me for a session as I have an idea on how it works but not sure. Can you create a player vs evo character and the join a specific person to help the by casting sign etc. or is it random.

When doing PVP is can you. Choose who to invade and then fight or is this also random.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's hard to get some co-op done with someone you know. First of all, you have to place a summon sign on the ground to get a co-op partner in. They also have to be within 10% of your soul level. The problem is that anyone can cut you off, and activate the summon sign, so if you want someone specific to find it, you'll have to hide it somewhere clever. And once you've defeated the boss in that area, your co-op partner will dissapear, so the whole thing is quite cumbersome.

The game wasn't really made for that kind of co-op.

As far as I know there is no way to manipulate PVP invasions, other than making sure you're on an appropriate soul level, and the other person is in human form in your area.

Got my 1000G in this last week. 180 hours+ I sank into the mofo!

I can help anyone out if they need help, got various characters at differant levels scattered throughout the game, send me a msg on xbox live if you want a jolly co-op buddy and I'll get my sign down to help you out (360 only I'm afraid). I could probably drop some good loot for you too.

Currently planning a Soul Level 1 playthrough for a challenge.

@Blackbeltjonzey – glad you're enjoying it but DS is deliberately not designed for true co-op as it would render the game easier and non-scary. You're meant to struggle alone with sporadic help from random similarly tortured souls. Personally, I'm glad you can't play it as a party. Co-op horror doesn't work (Resident Evil 5, cough).

@cram – you're storming along, so I take it The Witcher 2 has taken a back seat there? DS is the better game but TW2 is still fine. I'm going through again siding with the other lot and am at Ch2.

Guess your right (systems) are you a member or moderator(system generated). As your profile leaves me in the dark.

I'd just like the option to show off all my hard work to my friends really, as you know its such hard work at the beginning. And a reason to go back and help people with my rock hard chr. Perhaps once you have finished the game. Yeah but I know what you mean # RE5 (although I did enjoy playing it with the missus. )

Perhaps I will actually finish it off soon, didnt want it to end – but don't know if I can go through all that again… I feel like an unsung hero…
