I’ve booked the 9th off partly because of this game and partly because I want to see the doctor about getting a vasectomy, hopefully the former will be less painful. I hope the game has some decent RPG elements in there like health, attack power, weapon proficiency etc. I heard it has a quest system but not sure if that would be level based (i.e. main and sub objectives) or it would be more open ended like Fallout.

Iv preordered it from amazon, only £30. So if it's no good I should be able to get a fair wack of that back to go towards gears 3.

I was a bit on the rent/buy fence but it has already dropped to £30 in a few places so it's worth a punt for that. Apparently there is a good 20+ hours of single player content and I'm sure I heard somewhere it has drop in/out co-op as well.
If only there was some sort of website or forum where you could arrange multiplayer sessions with like minded gamers…….

IGN had me at "Fallout 3 with zombies" and it's got to be worth a punt for 30 quid.I wasn't really a huge fan of the story( or lack of in left 4 dead) it just left me cold.So hopefully this might go some way to filling that void.
PS. Don't kill me with your cyber mind bullets over the L4D comment it just wasn't for me but I did always respect the fun you all had on your undead nights.

I see that Edge have given this a 3/10 and there are alot of mixed reviews floating around.Im still up for this game and its only £29.99 from Amazon so i dont mind taking a punt on this title.

Edge review today gave it a 3, most of the stuff they highlight does sound pretty gamebreaking so think I'm gona give it a miss now. Apparently the day one patch doesn't fix any of the stuff they found broken either :-(

I've dived in and ordered it on 360 and at just under £30 i can always trade it back in.
It can not be as bad as Brink can it? ( i took a day off work for that bag of poo. )

Having read a number of pre-release reviews, it seems like this one is really splitting the critics.
The whole concept does suggest a slightly different approach to whole zombie fest with a more considered story / quest approach inserted but it also seems like the whole thing is broken in places. A 37 bug fix patch release planned for day 1 does not fill me with too much confidence.
Having said that, if you can look past the initial problems it does sound like people will have a lot of fun with it (shame about only having online co-op, but then that's what MLG is for – establishing links between Evil Deaders since 2010!)
If anyone does take the plunge, let us know your thoughts… Still on the fence about purchase here.

Edge can suck my balls!! I canceled my subscription with them yesterday after they didnt send my mag almost 2months on the trot!!! I feel that they are the diva's of the game press and they just go to the extreme on there reviews just to get attention. Too many times has that mag put me off games when months later i give it a try and love it. This will be a buy for me but not just yet.

I hear the game is buggy as hell.
This game would have vanished into nothing if it wasn't for that superb backwards trailer.
Unfortunatly it seems to have hyped the game up to somehting it's not living up to.
Shame.

Dead Island seems to be one of those strange beasts which really shows that Game critics dont always get things right.
Ones mans trash is another mans treasure so to speak.
I didnt really have any intention to pick this one up on day one as i've been stung by that too many times…..I'm scowling at you BRINK!
Hopefully after the christmas season there will be a couple of forum members in the same place and then we can get some co-op on the got for dead island. Still want to play it but theres just waaaaay to much coming out over the coming months.
You're so wise… Like a minature Buddha covered in hair!

Just been looking through all the videos on Steam, the co-op sounds great and it looks amazing… the copy Edge reviewed was pre day one patch which apparently resolves 37 known issues so I would love to hear what anyone who picks it up thinks post patch before I throw thirty quid at it.

Its really interesting for me as well. If we could get a group to play it co-op, I could be convinced…

so what i am seeing of it is a mix of far cry 2 and borderlands which looks pretty good it seems to be a game what will be more enjoyable as a group
hearing the island is pretty big i am on the edge of buying this but if a certain imorted game gets here by Friday it has no chance until after the flood of games this winter
so what people are 100% picking it up on day one as that might tilt it as well what console

Giant Bomb has a quick look up.
Check out the bit where he breaks a zombies arms and it still comes at you trying to headbutt you with two useless arms flailing about.
I had this on pre-order. I looked at the reviews and I still think its worth a go. RPG zombie killing and drop in drop out co-op is always good. Then again I did pre-order brink and failed to cancel it due to hopeless optimism.

for those of us on PC, who want a few more quid off Greenmangaming.com have a promo on it at the moment for the download version.
They have an extra 20% off the £29.99 with the code READY-UPDEA-ISLAN used at checkout making it £23.96
If you use my refer code below, once you create an account and make a purchase of at least £5.00 you will get £5.00 credited to your GMG account as well.
So it doesn't look as though Im hogging the love, you can then create your own referral link, and post it below so we can spread the £5.00 credit love!

Ok spent a significant amount of time with the game last night and I’m learning to like it. I don’t consider it Fallout with zombies, close enough but lacking a lot of polish and fine tuning which is what I expected with Techland. Cutscenes look weak, sounds are all over the place, controls are just about competent and graphical bugs are common as pregnant chavs outside my local Bargain Booze. Likewise there are no tutorials (I never knew I could use med-packs until four hours in), visuals such as characters or locations are very much cut and paste and there loads of fetch quests whose status never really update in the quest tab.
But its good. Oh boy is smashing the head of a zombie in with a machete fun. Dare not try the online until the patch is released but so far, if you can pick this up around the £25 mark you should be ok.
