ok guys, thanks to the good lady I know I have an xbox and a kinect coming for xmas (Yeah she's a keeper)

it comes with kinect adventures, forza 4 and the immense Kung Fu Panda 2

now the question,  She has also got me a £100 amazon voucher and I'm going to try and stick to exclusives in the main but what games do you suggest I get.

First rule is that I still, in the main, hate FPS so will want to avoid them mostly

Rule 2 – I game for about 20 hours a week max so don't have time to sink into a 500 hour epic so 40-60 hours max

Rule 3 – I will probably buy used rather than brand new so please tell me if I have to get an online pass as well

Rule 4 – I don't care how old the game is as I will be more likely to pick it up for pennies – in fact the older the better (Tightarse Gamer here)

Added note – I have just found out that I have won a copy of need for speed the run today so won't need to buy that and 2 racing games is probably enough to start.

Hi mate,

yep definately a keeper.  Off the top of my head, and only a couple of my recommendations;

Mass Effect

Bioshock (Try and get the second one to cos its dirt cheap and underrated)

Batman: Arkham Asylum (awesome)

Dead Space

Some top games, probably pick them up for less than 15 quid each .  If you want some marathon gaming try

Oblivion

Fallout 3

All these games are old and therefore reasonably cheap, but I am sure that some of the other members of the community will agree there are some good games in there.

A couple of good shouts there (Bioshock 1 and 2 and the xbla titles cramtheman mentioned are essential playing). Definitely invest in some microsoft points, there are loads more cracking XBLA titles that put a lot of retail games to shame – Torchlight and Bastion spring to mind.

As for exclusives, gears series (of which 1 and 2 can be pickd up for peanuts) and the highly under-rated Alan Wake.

Good man Si.

Reading through your stipulations, and from what everyone else has written, most have been covered I think.

I don't like FPS's either, but Bioshock is a bloody good game.

My list of rules is growing exponentially.  Soon I won't be able to play most games.

No FPS's, no sports, losing the will with 3rd person shooters, linear games are becoming harder to play and 'virtual sticks' on the iPhone are a no go I'm afraid. confused

I will say that if you've never played RE4 then the HD version available for download is rather good.

Fallout 3 for sure, can be as long as you like and Vats means you do not need to play like a fps.

Assasins creed (2, brotherhood or revelations which is damn good whatever anyboy says smile )

Saints row 2 which is just plain good fun, not played 3 yet.

Mass effect 1 and 2, pretty sure they are not that long, both exellent though a bit fps.

Would also say get 1 game at a time and  play it till bored before getting another otherwise if you're like me you'll never really end up playing any for long.

Exclusives you say? Well you can start with gears of war 1,2 and 3

Alan wake, left for dead (although it is first person) also mass effect

also, drop £15 on a 2100 points card. There's some brilliant xbla titles along with all the dlc to download

thanks for the tips guys

So far I have gone with:

Fable 2

Scene it (Xmas day fun really)

Fight Night Round 3

SBK X

And Gears 2

Brother has bought me a 12 month + 800 points gold membership & 2100 points so thats the xbla games sewn up methinks

The list I have of possibles with the rest of the money are:

Power Up Heroes

Virtua Tennis 4

Sims 3

Child of Eden

Star Trek Legacy

Alan Wake

Mass Effect 1 & 2

Gears 1

Komeo

Dance Central

Fable 3

I also have the lovefilm list  ready for xmas with Kinect Sports 1 & 2 + Yoostar 2

Anything out of the list that I should avoid at all costs????

Is Kinect sports 1 AND 2 overkill???

Is there anything I should add for the xmas day and boxing day parties we have planned???

If you haven't made your mind up fully yet I can definately get behind the Batman Arkham Asylum suggestion.

For a hack fest Darksiders is a much underrated title.

Fighter you can never go wrong with SF4

Mass effect is a good choice also if you like the sword n' sorcery stuff Dragon Age is a good bet.

and if you want your rump kicked Ninja Gaiden 2 I just got that myself for the grand total of £3.94 with delivery.
