It's not uncommon to sink hundreds of hours into a game these days. I know some people have dropped over a month on MW2. Which is quite shocking because the game is relatively new. When I check my online time with Guild Wars I think "How Many Hours!!!" Saying that.. Guild Wars is  few years old now. But, when I add up the hours I've notched up over the years playing games I find it slightly alarming.

I can justify the time I spend playing games by saying what else would I be doing with my time apart from cabbaging in front of the T.V?

Here's my point.. How do you justify the time you spend playing games and are you shocked when you see the amount of hours you've dropped into gaming?

I justify it as I'm outta work and nothing else better to do in between job hunting, and I'm not shock by the amount of time I spend playing, it's normally about 15-20 hours a day……………… do I have a problem?

Lol.. I ask because a friend asked what I was going to do with myself for the afternoon after work and someone said "he's probably gonna switch his playstation on and sit there all day playing games" I was a bit reluctant to admit that is probably what I would do heh smile

It just got me thinking about all the hours we actually do put into our gaming. That said though.. no matter what our hobby or favourite pastime is, it's all about the recreation and how we choose to spend our time to wind down isn't it?

I'm too busy to notch up many hours. Maybe fifteen hours in a really good week.

I'm a single parent, so I don't have to justify my gaming. Once the kids are in bed I can't exactly hit the pub, and my limit for passive entertainment seems to be much lower than most people. I need something that makes my brain work to to entertain me. I'm not the kind of person who can just 'veg out' in front of the TV.

Summed it up perfectly there.  I too have an overactive sharp brain that cannot watch daytime drivel and evening repeats or wannabee celebrities on the goggle box I need to keep my brain occupied and gaming fullfills that for me.  I do also like to read a good book if Im not gaming though. And Im not bothering anyone by playing games either lol it keeps me out of trouble.  Awesome

Surley its better to play a game were you need to think and interact than veg out infront of "Katie Price sells her kids for one last ounce of fame". I would rather be getting sucked into the storylines of likes of Mass Effect 2 than the utter baffeling bollocks of Corination Street and fucking Eastenders. Its just another form of having a hobby in my opinion. My wife likes to read, I like to play games. Same difference.Awesome

Family and work take up most of my time too.

To borrow the term from Sony, gaming is my 'third' place.

I spend more time reading and listening to podcasts about gaming rather than actually gaming.

A buddy and I regularly meet up on a Thursday and enjoy a couple of hours on the sofa together…gaming. Outside of that I might manage to squeeze a few hours in through the week if the missus is out.

So what if I don't get to play all the games under the sun…I still fuckin enjoy the time I have.

(If I get my hands on a NEW title, Mrs Adamski will say I should play it….but that only lasts for a couple of evenings)

It's not really dedication, I'm an insomniac, with nothing else better to do and low self esteem, so I shut myself in and play games. It has been known before for me to spend 40-50 hours straight playing games, neglecting to eat, only stopping to go to the toilet.

I probably get 10 to 15 hours in a week but console time is limited as they're attached to the tv in the living room. Hence my pc gaming time has been seriously bumped lately.

How do I justify it? Well I don't drink, gamble, chase women or do much illegal any more so I think its a fair trade.

I used to get about 40 min in the morning before work. and then maybe an hour or two after the missus has gone to bed. Now I grab what I can if I am not too tired – spawn and wife at home has limited it severely.

i think we are all in the same boat. work, family, life does get in the way a bit. i game when i can kids in bed, wife asleep on the sofa. then bugger me the outlaws visit for the week bang goes the gaming. (i do need another t.v. really). but all in all mostly grab a few hours in the evenings and at the weekends.

I justify the hours i put into games with 1 simple answer. "There are worse things I could be doing with my time, for example i could spend all this game money on drugs and really mess things up for myself, gaming makes me happy, it is my drug when naked lady isnt available to be naked at that time, so just leave me be with my gamepad and dont disturb me unless you are the naked lady in question, thank you"

Simple Awesome

Realised earlier that ive passed the 120hr mark on Borderlands and ive still got stuff to do on it and the dlc is out soon, that game is so gooooood!!!

661 hours is about average for Call of Duty, but Borderlands.. is there even that much gaming in it?

It's an interesting topic. Typically, I'll get in an hour or 2 after work and then a few hours at the weekends. Usually, my missus will stay in bed longer than me, so 9-11 is my gaming time. However, once in a while I get weekends like this one where she's busy so I can indulge in a bit of a session (Arkham Asylum today), which is a real rarity in my non-bachelor life!! ha!

The biggest commitment, time-wise, I can think of was San Andreas on the PS2, which took 170+ hours – though I think that was almost all getting from one place to another!!

Those are the two most interesting things I've ever read you say. I hope you're not talking about speeding or something gay.
