Can anybody out there recommend a good independent game shop?

There used to be a couple of good ones in Edinburgh a few years back – NeoGen was one – but they've shut down, and I'm left with the generic Game outfits which leave me in despair.  Gamestation on Princes Street was pretty good until they closed the upstairs part with all the retro stuff.

I don't care where in the country the recommendations are, I'll more than likely visit that part of the world in the next year.  If it has a website, even better.  All I'm concerned about is a game shop for gamers.  One that has the new, the second hand, the retro, the imported.  One where the staff have a passion for games and know what they're talking about.

Please help.

Theres a very nice little independant games shop in Cheltenham where i live. only been about a couplke of years but i've gotten to know the guys that work there and i just enjoy spending time in the store.

They also run a very good loyalty scheme where if you make 5 purchases over £30 you got a free retail title, Any title.

The Shops called Game on but i dont think they have a website but i know theres a forum post somewhere with a couple of pictures of the store knocking about on the internet.

Online shop CEX are pretty good and cheap too I find them hard to beat. They do have stores in most big towns too you can check their store finder.  They do new, used and you can trade in stuff too and all prices are listed in black and white on their website so you know exactly what your gonna get for your games and consoles etc.  Some of their shops even have retro consoles in.  smile

But they no longer do imports, myself I use a guy on a local (ish) market, he sells stuff cheaper than the shops and imports for me too.

Have a look at Gamexchange.co.uk, haven't bought anything from the site but you can also trade games in against other titles. Another online or store retailer i use is Grainger Games.co.uk you can buy online or if you live in the north of England you may have a store near you, I have traded quite a few games in and have found them very good!,getting twice as much from what 'Game' offers!

My local independent store is The Games Exchange Ltd
131 High St
Rhyl, Clwyd LL18 1TR

They aren't anything to do with the games exchange above. Just 2 stores in N Wales (I can't speak for the Llandudno branch).

The shop in Rhyl is great, they stock used, new, retro, imports & do rentals, have tons of video game memorabilia and a small but great bunch of staff! Always up for a chat or a game with you. They are happy to tell you about the latest games or dig through the retro and secondhand stuff for you. Prices arent fantastic but compare with game/ gamestation.

There's a store near me called MT Games. 21-23 Meadow Street, Weston-Super-Mare, North Somerset, BS23 1QQ. They're a bit hit a miss with stock of retro gear but they do a pretty good job covering the newer stuff, with some great pre-owned prices.
