Iv just read an interesting artical on IGN http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/…..513p1.html
I was just wondering whats peoples opinions on the subject. Iv just bought a new gaming rig (well a laptop for gaming) and its the first time iv had a pc that can run anything I throw at it but what iv noticed is that there are very few exclusive titles for PCs anymore, apart from MMOs or RTS, that I cant get on a console. Its also made me realise the amount of faffing about you need to do to play a game on a pc ( installs, correct drivers ect) Dont get me wrong, I love the games i play on my pc its just I find it hard to justify spending 1600 quid when you can get the same expirience on a console for a fraction of the price.
So to bring me back to my original question – Is PC gaming Dying/Dead?

Big, console-style PC games are dying, but flash and other casual (facebook-based) games are thriving.

It makes me sad but your right . Although saying that, Starcraft 2 has sold really well and I think you need a half decent PC for that.

if only they produced mice and keyboard set ups for the consoles, that would be the nail in pc gaming coffin

You spent £1600 for a gaming laptop, you could have built a killer PC for about £400-500 that would put your laptop to shame and a 360 and PS3. Consoles are great for ease of use, but they will never kill PC gaming, a FPS really needs to be played with a keyboard and mouse.

I don't think PC gaming is dying. It's just changing – and that's part of the beauty of PC's, they can adapt! During my 25 year gaming history I've always had more of a shift toward computer gaming than console gaming. Partly because computer games always seemed a bit more 'grown up' than their console counter parts. The PC has always had traditional areas of weakness. The keyboard and mouse, whilst versatile will never rival the gamepad for platformers, beat-em-ups etc.
But what the PC does offer are games with layers of complexity that you'll probably never see on a console. Strategy games and MMO's are it's main strengths. Although we take it for granted, the mouse is such an intuitive thing – that it makes operating deeply complicated user interfaces a doddle. Try that with a gamepad – fail. Although there have a been a few notable exceptions where the console have tried to adapt (LOTR and C&C off the top of my head). But in most cases it feels like you're playing a cut down version of the original.
Multi-player gaming is a bit of a pain in the arse compared to the match-making systems that are used on consoles. But what the PC does give you is more control over the types of games you can join. If I manage to find a decent server where every actually plays as a team and seems reasonably friendly, I can bookmark that server and come back to it day after day. This concept of micro-communities forming around a server is a definite strong point for having dedicated servers.
I will say this though – that without Valve and Steam, we'd probably be in a much more dire state of affairs. Steam has made the delivery and installation of games easy enough that all but the most moronic can cope. I actually can't remember the last time I bought a physical box copy of a PC game. This has been a blessing when moving house and also buying new computers. No more hunting around the bedroom looking for CD cases and serial numbers. Now I just fire up Steam and download whatever is missing. Genius.

PC gaming is not dead yet but as people have mentioned it probably is a bit marginalised. So it's the go to system for MMO or RTS games but the days are gone that the PC was the king of the FPS (Doom, Quake, Unreal etc). Most people including me play the big name FPS (COD etc) via a console. Having said that I haven't actually seen the sales figures do they tell a different story?
