I have gone a little mental and just put in an order with play asia for this.
Has anybody else tried to play a game in Japanese (or any other language you have no knowledge of?) Am I letting myself in for an educating experience, or a frustrating hell?
I have hit blocks in both MHFU and Tri because of my ineptitude, and need a new MH fix!

it is playable as most of the icons are the same so going in there with monster hunter experience helps

I've managed to get to the max Hunter Rank on MHP3rd on PSP.. i've been considering ordering this version too, but I was using an English patch on the PSP version which made everything so much easier. You'll have to let me know if it's easy enough to get by on and you'll have someone else to play with

I will let you know what it is like.
It is kind of typical that the game took less than three days to get from HK to Chelmsford. Today they cocked up the bit from Chelmsford to me! They promise tomorrow.

It finally came! Yay!
Playing it isn't overly difficult if you are familiar with the MH games. The wiki helps with the menu and item translations.
In an hour I got through the first four 1* quests, and the first hot tub quest.
Good fun so far  Can't wait until my week off!

Up to about 6 hours now. It is now my favourite MH.
The Japanese isn't a huge problem. On a hunt you tend to know what everything is (you put it in your bag!) and when you are in the village you can take the time to refer to the wiki.
Tri looks absolutely awful now! The PS3 graphics are nice and bright, very cartoon like. I like that.
If anyone has it on the PSP and a Jap Ad-Hoc party, I'd love to play on-line. The PS3 version uses it's own version of Ad-Hoc party and is Japan only  I am seriously thinking about importing a PSP copy now.
