I don't understand why this is on the Wii. Especially when they're handing out classic controllers with it for you to be able to even play the game properly.

Oh yeah and most importantly nothings static. The creatures roam and spawn from area to area and the buggers follow you through loading zones into new areas. There's no kiting monsters and moving arcoss loading screens for safety like in good old UO Embarassed

That also applies to mining ores etc they 'generally' spawn in some areas but depending on your skills you bump into them in other locations as well.

Throw in the day night cycle and getting your grind on for a drop doesn't feel repetitive. Thumbs Up

Phizzy; I don't know either if it was a PS3 title it would have shipped a fuck ton when the word spread.

You don't need the classic controller, or a gamecube controller.  You can play it with the Wiimote and nunchuck or any of the above.  It's just nice to have options and the new Classic Controller Pro is really nice.

Yeah, it probably would have sold some PS3's as well, but hey ho, it is where it is and it's bloody excellent.

It's like the fact that they shipped the last version on PSP.  I'm not paid to worry about which machine a game is being created for.  I just play the games.

Phizzy, stop the hate brother and feel the love.

In a recent interview the game's Director, Kaname Fujioka was asked about bringing the franchise to the Wii. His response was…

"We wanted to bring Monster Hunter to a
new audience, and since Wii gamers are from a broad range this
opportunity excites us."

There will likely be a financial benefit of course, and it's all about delivering a popular franchise to the widest audience possible. The easiest way to do that was to bring the game to a Nintendo platform. Business is business…

Well it's definitely not going to see a new audience based on the platform, the 'new audience' that own the Wii aren't going to be interested in this kind of game.

It's been a long time since we had some proper Nintendo love on here.

Don't knock it until you've tried it Phizzy.  That's the advice I learned from a wise young man regarding one recent Final Fantasy game that I grew to love.

Enough of that already, I've been fishing this morning.

And I caught me a Mystic Narwhal [Rare 4] night fishing on the right bank of level 10 using worm and a line woven from the sinew of a Jaggi's scrotum.

The last bits a fib but the rest it be true.

It was this big

I have been using the A button to attack which is a thrust and shield block move instead of X which is a combo balls deep attack Thumbs Down

I have been buying Combo books because I thought they gave me advanced attack combo's but they actually improve your chance of producing combinations of items  Thumbs Down

I have been keeping hand written notes of all my item combinations when its stored on a tab in my bloody journal Thumbs Down

Note to self; Read the bloody manual and read the screen description Embarassed

Bloody hell, good work on the fishing! Is it food fish you've caught or ammo fish?

You're going to be unstoppable now you now how to attack properly. smile I've read the manual three times and it was only on my last read that I realised that I have a decent combo which starts with the kick! I hadn't used the kick before but now I'm using it rather often. I'd be kicking those bloody Felynes but I can't risk them nicking half my stuff!

Can you catch Goldenfish at the fishing point at base camp or do you have to be in area ten?

Hugo, do you speed combine out in the field or do you do it at home?

I combine most things in my item box at home. When you highlight one item it gives you all the options of combinations of other things that you have in the box. Once you've combined something for the first time, I think it goes into your notepad.

You've probably realised that already, but you never know! smile

Have you ventured into the desert yet?

I haven't!!!

Here's a little ditty that I like to sing when I'm out on the plains a-hunting and it has served me well so far, especially when it's backs to the wall time and everything's going a little pear shaped.

"Climb every mountain, ford every stream.

Follow every rainbow, untill you find your dream.

A dream that will need, all the love you can give.

Every day of your life, for as long as you live."

Damn you manual!

I have a Felyne bomb – Oh Yes – Feel the pain Mr Monster – Feel the pain of those bloody cats bashing the shit out of you and nicking your stuff.

I thought you meant a bomb to kill the Felynes then! Are you in any danger from them yourself?

What items did you use to make that? I assume bomb casing and felvyne although I've never seen those two options highlighted on the combination screen!

Bloody good work sir. My first was about nine and a half meters. I got given a super size dung when I finished killing the GJ in the woods. Did you upgrade your weapon how you wanted?

Guys,

I managed to get all the GJ claws and items that I needed to that Great Sword that I wanted.  The one with the extra section of 'green' sharpness.  Without swearing, it's f**king awesome. Thumbs Up

It glows green when it's sharpened and lets me know when that power has run out so I can sharpen it again.  I swear it bears the Power of Greyskull.  I went out to do some gathering in the woods.  There were two Great Jaggi wandering about so I thought I'd stay clear of them.  Then I thought sod it, I have my new sword and they're going to get it.

After chivving one of them up for a bit, it ran off into area six to get a rest.  I followed, crept up on it and using my super charge attack I bloody well killed it where it lay.  Poor bugger never had a chance. Thumbs Up

Antman, if you still need those Immature Sponges, I got some more from the 'Ludroths' I think.

I think it is a Bone Sword.  It's got a max hit of 480 but don't think I have any of the items needed to upgrade it yet! Frown

I'm working on it!

I've had a bloody great day.  Caught a Great Jaggi and a Qurupeco and killed a Royal Ludroth.  The Qurupeco even called for help from a Rathian, just like in the demo that I played.

I love my new Sword! Thumbs Up

I managed to get online briefly earlier.  Played with a random and although we couldn't talk to each other, I still really enjoyed it.

As I couldn't get near the TV for most of the day, I plotted up with my PSP and got right back into MHFU.  After the Antman sermon the other day I'm playing it differently with my new understanding of the armour skills.  I had to get the Autotracker skill like I have on Tri.  I bloody love being able to know where the large monsters are.  Got a different sword as well.  The one I was using was shite.  I have no purest green sharpness on it yet though, but it's coming.

I was trying to work out why I like this game so much and then I remembered the emergency podcast that Matt and Emily did about WOW, possibly episode 13.5.  He was giving her grief about there being no story, although he was just playing devil's advocate.  The fact that Monster Hunter has very little in the way of story is very appealing to me, just like Civ 4, WOW and L4D, among others.  I'm not actually working towards an end game story, it's just something I can play over and over. Thumbs Up

I had a dabble in the early hours of this morning and I have discovered that the Lance suits my play style the best. I had amassed a ton of stuff so I thought I would experiment with some weapon creation.

The sword and shield was fast but I wasn't dealing enough damage.

I suck ass with the bowgun

The Hammer is Ok

The Long Sword was looking good

But the Lance is just my stylie a nice balance of defence and big hitting including a charged attack.

However, since I killed my second Great Jaggi in Moga woods the buggers have been hunting in PAIRS! But with the hunters armour at least I can see where they  are and have a chance of singling them out. It gets a bit emotional with Two of them and their brood all coming at me. I've yet to complete the Level 2 trap quest because I'm pants at throwing the tranq bombs. Trapped him twice missed him twice!

Now for why this game has got me. Usually I like the story and that's what drives me through games but this is different. Its the constant ebb and flow of change ups that's got me hooked. I want the better gear so I can kick arse and move onto bigger quests but this game gets the balance right and doesn't let you get too powerful. That's pretty clever because once I start kicking butt easily I normally start to find things monotonous. As soon as I'm I'm feeling confident and keen to try out my newly forged and upgraded weapon something else comes into the mix. And then there's the torment of being a few components away from the next upgrade, it just keeps me coming back for more.

Yeah the 'story' is virtually non existent but you're creating your own experience all the time. I haven't put nearly Forty hours into a game for a very long time, this is a winner.

I normally love changing weapons as I had a look at the weapon usage stats on FU this morning, but I'm having too much fun with the Great Sword.  I want to try the Lance as well.  I've just unlocked the Switch Axe as well but the only one I can create is a bit weedy!!

I stand right next to them when they're in the shock traps.  You can't miss with the Tranq Bombs.  You have to have worn them right down though, or the tranqs won't work.  I caught my first monster in FU as well today.  Tri manages to actually teach you what to do and explains it rather well.  There is almost no tutorial in FU at all.

Sword and shield for me, I'm up to the Commander's sword now. I like the agility, I normally womp a great jaggi without taking a hit. Plus with my jaggi armour set and attack decorations, I've got the Attack Up Medium skill. It takes the normally 154 damage of my sword and boosts it up to 190. It does sound low, but considering I'm hitting about 3 times a second it all adds up.

I've also got a couple of healing horns, I'll have to try them out in a party.

RAWWR why can't I stop talking about this fecking game?!

Search your feelings, Phizzy, you can't do this. I feel the conflict
within you. Let go of your hate.

Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for the Wii are strong.

It is unavoidable. It is your destiny.
