Phizz, I was just as surprised as you to find a proper game on the Wii. I doubted it too.
But I have seen the light, and it is good.

Ok fella's I've got my Cha Cha and opened up level 3.
I'm desperately short of glue(?)bugs for the armour upgrades I'm after. Do they only spawn in the desert?

Good work Hugo.
I can't quite remember where the glue bugs come from. Can't you get those cats down on the farm to get busy breeding some more for you?

Nope, they cannot be grown on the farm.
I take its the Gluehopper you're talking about Hugo. I normally find in the sandy plains, area 4 theres a bug area you can normally get 1 or 2 from. They are in quite short supply, but its only the alloy armour that needs them I think?
I've negotiated most of LV3 quests, I've killed and captured a Quropeco, the capture one was funny, it called in a massive flying wyvern to join the party, to be honest the wyvern probably did most of the damage to the quropeco! I just can't kill the Royal Ludroth though, for a big bugger it's too quick! I was using the great sword, probably the best option as it has a block.

My Switch Axe (Bone+) has the slightest hint of green sharpness. I hit him about six time then I have to re-sharpen! His legs and underbelly are the softest areas. When he shakes his mud you can get underneath him and do some damage. Takes me ages though. I've taken two down and it's been after the final ten minute warning!

I've been on a bit of a roll, the Royal Ludroth fell and soon after the Barroth tasted the sweet edge of my switch-axe.
It's funny though, in the arena mode I couldn't kill him but in real play I did first time. Again though, I was in the last 10 minutes, no potions or whetstones left and I'd been knocked out 2 times.
I quite fancy the Ludroth capture next, but I think I'll roll round the Moga Woods for a bit yet. I've gotta get plenty of Barroth parts, I really fancy the armour. +attack and other tasty attributes.

Nice work. I haven't been able to take another Barroth down yet. There's a little spell in the middle of his demise where he goes mental for about thirty seconds. I just happened to be in exactly the wrong place and keep losing one of my 'lives' during it. It keeps going down to the wire but he's the one left standing at the end. The bugger. Not enough preparation either. In my rush to try again I keep leaving the village without something important…there's a lesson to be learned there!
Anyway, I'm trying to get a decent bowgun together and get some practice with it before next Tuesday and I'm also going through the online quests trying to open up the second tier. The 'shrooms one took me ages. Deliver 15 Unique Mushrooms. I mopped up every mushroom spore in Moga Woods but didn't have enough. Delivered the ones I had back to camp, then some had re-spawned in certain areas…still not enough. Back to camp again, then finally I found enough. Took about thirty minutes but I was by myself!

Well today got off to a bad MH start. I found a small pool of water around my wiimote. I don't slam it around or anything, but removing the battery cover revealed more of said mysterious fluid. I thought the batteries had leaked, either way the wiimote is dead, even new batteries don't bring any joy. God damnit, that'll be another £30 going Argos' way. I spose it is 2 years old so I can't feel too bad about it.
Still though, its better than buying a new 360 every 12 months!
On a tangent, bowguns are pretty good, I haven't made one myself but used a few in Arena mode. Quite a low rate of fire but they pack some punch. I nearly took that Barroth down in the arena with one.
Any chance of some MH action today?
Right, off to Argos, weeeeee!

Nice one Cadge, you'll get your moneys worth with this. I think Guernica, Hugo and myself are past the 30 hour mark and not even half way through yet.
If you have a smartphone you can get Skype on there, it seems to work pretty well.

Nice one Caged. Glad you're enjoying it.
Yeah, I use Skype on the iPhone and it's pretty decent, or dare we try and get a party chat going on PS3?
I've just hit thirty nine hours and just opened up the fourth tier of quests on single player. Tried to take the Barroth down twice again this morning for the one Barroth Claw that I need for my new axe but failed both times. Went in from a different angle. Switched to Jaggi armour for the attack bonus, upped the skill to 15 for medium attack bonus and went back to my Great Sword. Finished him off in under half an hour!
Got my missing Claw then realised I had used one too many of my Thunderbugs for my Shock Traps and now I haven't got enough for my new Axe.
Took on the Gobul 'Emergency Quest' for the second time (I had tried and failed a couple of days ago), still with my new armour and Great Sword and just about finished him off. I must've had about 5% health left. Watching hime feeding on some of the Ludroths when his health was super low was awesome. I love this game.

Ah, what a day. I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere in this game. Got the whole farm up and running with all Felynes back on the ranch.
Got all the fishing boats back in the water after completing the first 'Lagiacrus' quest. You don't get the chance to kill him, you just have to give him a good thrashing and then he heads off back from whence he came. He does seem a little 'toned down' as well.
Finally got all the bits to upgrade my Switch Axe then realised I had enough new parts to upgrade my Great Sword. It's bloody awesome. Was having fun taking down some hefty monsters with that – there is a quest to take down a Great Jaggi and a Barroth. Easily done.
Then unlocked the Long Sword. It does a lot less damage than my Great Sword and you cannot block with it, but if you get a combo going and consecutive hits, a meter fills up. When the meter is full you can unleash a devastating combo with electricity flying everywhere and occasionally stunning the prey. That combo even ends up with the weapon back in the sheath. Awesome. Took down my first Rathian with it and the new armour set for that creature seems to have some fantastic skills.
There's a couple more fourth tier quests to do, although I've been asked to do another emergency quest which is to kill the Lagiacrus.
That'll have to wait until tomorrow though, I must have played for seven hours today. Emma's off out tomorrow evening so if anyone is up for some MP give me a shout.
Mmmmm, I can almost taste Lagiacrus flesh…

ME! I'm up for the old MP, I'm still HR level 5
I'm at a similar point in the game, I'm loving the long sword. Although its got about 75% basic damage of the great sword, but has about half again of elemental damage. Plus that rage mode is something fierce, I knocked a Barroth on its arse in 5 minutes with it. The Rathian was easier than expected, I cracked up when Cha-cha knocked it's tail off!
I haven't attempted the pawpass quests yet, something tells me they're harder than they look.

I'm confused. It almost sounds like you're talking about Monster Hunter but the game I played was a pale imitation. How many hours did you have to put in before it stopped chanting the green cross code and pushed you out in front of the traffic?

If I remember correctly (its around 50 hours game play ago now) I had played for around 3 hours or so before it got hold of me and gave me a right royal arse kicking. Now I look at the quest list or get some information about a new random creature in Moga wood and then spend a good while at the armour/weapon/equipment management screens desperately trying to figure out a way of getting properly kitted out for what I might bump into.
Yesterday I gained the Dung Master ability. A well aimed dung bomb from me and that's a Great Jaggi's stamina down and they're immediately on the run for safety. Of course I don't know how well it works on the other creatures or what it'll do if I accidentally hit someone else in multiplayer . We'' have to see tonight.

Antman, those pawpass quests are easy, just gathering really and checking out the maps in a bit more detail without the added hassle of large monsters. I'm still HR4 as I haven't been but online yet.
Mr Johnson, I'm ashamed of you. I thought you'd be on Rare 6 Armour by now. You can't be annoyed by the fact that the game actually explains what you're supposed to as opposed to the PSP brick wall that you had to smash your way through. It has certainly given me more information to take to the PSP game (which I'm still playing). It's even got a decent online mode which is a lot of fun.
MP tonight then. We may actually get onto the second tier of quests!!!

So I'm getting into this game more now, seem to be getting the feel for it with the exception of the camera. I tend to keep missing the monsters because I would forget to move the right thumb stick and just wield my weapon instead LOL! I took down my first Great Jaggi tonight, I know I'm quite away behind you guys but pretty chuffed with myself. I've done the 1st and 2nd levels in single player bar one which is capture the great jaggi so i'll try that when I'm next on.
Really enjoying it so far and the component cables it bought for the Wii have made a difference.
I was a bit disappointed that you couldn't wander round other maps though without starting a quest, but that's just a minor thing.

Yeah, I tend to use a small gathering type quest to get into the other maps. Some of the bugs and plant life in those areas are invaluable for upgrading stuff.
You need to get your timing right with the trapping quest, I found that the Great Jaggi moves into Area 1 of the desert from time to time so I cleared the area and waited for him there. A couple of times previously I had gone in after him and made a dogs dinner of the whole thing because there was just too much going on.

Nice one Caged, you're not too far behind, when you get on a roll those buggers drop like flies.
Capturing the great Jaggi I find it's easiest to ignore his buddies all together, just keep chipping away at his health. It may be worth repeating the killing mission a couple of times to really get to know him. Plus theres a nice armour set you can get with his various body parts.
The time to deploy the trap is after he goes down the second time. He'll limp like a fecker off into a different area. When you join his new area, wait until you aggro him again and he resumes attacking you before you plonk down a shock trap. Then bait him into the trap and have the tranqs ready. The second he hits the trap and is stunned, run in really close and pelt him with 2 or 3 tranqs. Job done!

Good man Caged. Keep it up and you'll have them in no time.
I tried for the Lagiacrus last night and failed miserably. Mostly due to me only taking some Mega Potions with me and no Potions, Herbs or Nutrients, or any of the other useful gear that I have back in my store box. It didn't seem too hard, although I'm not sure how much longer he would have a put up a fight. I used all 'four' of my Whetstones as well. DOH. Preparation is key…now where have I heard that before???
Went online for a couple of hours though and had an excellent couple of fights with another dude 'Mister T'. Caught a Royal Ludroth and a Quropeco. We both seemed to sync up regarding who was going to attack the large beast and who was going to hang back and between us we only had one faint in the two matches. You do meet some excellent people online when you can't talk to them!!
