That was a bargain Phizzy!  Nice find.

You're not going to need any help with this one, but we'll be online later if you can jump in.  I think you have to do some of the single player game before you can jump in to the online stuff but I might be wrong.

We'll be on Skype if you need us! Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Hooked!

Just finished the 1st quest. Have played about 5 hours. Nice and slow, lots of item gathering.

Got a few general questions:

1. Do you spend time between quests in Moga Wood item gathering and killing stuff for resource points to build up the village?

2. Do small monsters killed on quests count towards hunt log back at the village?

3. How do new weapons to forge show up on the list? After a bunch of quests? When you get an item thats needed for the forging?

Anyway loving the game. You guys did a good job of getting me stoked to buy it.

My wife thinks I bought the Wii for her to play Animal Crossing…..ha ha ha……

Glad you like it

1. Yep Building up Moga village unlocks some special items and upgrades so its well worth the effort and it becomes a handy resource and money making enterprise. The Mega Potion is your friend and its a staple for all hunters no matter what their level so getting these components farmed in Moga village is a must. (Blue Mushroom + Herb) + Honey

2. Yep the small ones count and they're worth doing for the addition to the resource count alone. Even the small carves are worth taking since you can use or sell them.

3. At certain points in the single player quests new weapon types show up in the forge new weapon menu. If you select the upgrade weapon menu then it will show you what weapons you have that can be upgraded and what you will need to complete it. The same goes for the equipment shop when you can buy new unlocked weapons.

Keep in mind that when you complete a quest level that boss will roam free in Moga Woods when you visit during free roam. You can check the hunt forecast with the chiefs son to find out what's going to be around for the next 3 days.

Oh yeah and don't underestimate the importance of dung in all of its different flavours its a handy commodity.

Oh my… this is going to be a disaster tomorrow…

..having played MH now for about 2 weeks …

…it sits on my shelf and I can hear it moaning every night…

…but I had no time…

…all that spare time went into AION the last days…

…I hope I can get some minutes in tonight to at least try and get

my HR up, but I do not know if I can make it….

…I feel so bad…

…the guilt …

…so ashamed…

Best regards

Good work last night chaps.  We finally took down the big one, or repelled him anyway!

May I take this opportunity to congratulate or esteemed leader, Hugo.  After what must be 170-180hrs he has finally reached the high level online quests.  The ones that sort the men from the boys.

None of the rest of us have made it yet. Cry

From a brief description of what he told us last night, it takes a number of the staple 'quest ingredients' and turns them on their head.  Things we once relied on, like supplies at the beginning of a quest, or even starting together as a party, have been thrown into the mix.  It's all changed.

What if the aggression and AI of the Monsters has been tuned up a notch?

We're going to be toast, but we will bravely follow where our glorious leader takes us.  This is where the real Monster Hunting begins. Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Wow… You are all doing things in this game I can hardly believe.  I have just beat the King Jaggi. Still haven't failed an offline quest but the capture quests look like they will be a bit more tricky. Still working on the Jaggi armour set.

How good is swimming! Love fighting things underwater.

Haven't tried the online game yet. Sounds like a lot of fun though. Will have to give it a go when I start to get stuck on the offline quests. Is there a MLG city to search for? Are cities always available or only when the person who started the city is online?

Swimming is awesome.  One of my new favourite aspects of the game.  Get that Jaggi armour, then head for the Queropeco armour.  It's awesome.

The game does a superb job of continually giving you something else to work for.  When you get enough items for something, you then realise that you've almost got enough for something else as well!  Love it.

The online 'cities' are really easy to navigate, and the friends thing is easy to add as well.  If we're all playing in different cities when we come on, someone just starts a new one and we all warp into it! Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Glad you're having fun though.  If you need any help, you know where we are!

You will all laugh at this, but it felt like things got real in MH3 today.

Captured the Great Jaggi, got ChaCha, made some new armour, killed some more Great Jaggis. Loving it.

I now have some questions though and I know someone will be able to help.

Can you just keep the Hunter's Armour and just keep leveling it up? I like the look of it and it's armour skills seem pretty good too.

Should I be keeping all the armour sphere's for later to use on better armour? Are armour spheres easier to get later in the game?

I just became able to forge a switch axe. Are they any good? I have been using the sword and shield because I like how fast the attacks are and it feels easy to get around monsters and attack from the sides. Any thoughts?

How do you get rare commodities? I still haven't got a single one.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice so far. I hope one day I'll be able to return the love in another game.

Good man Matt.

You could keep the Hunter's Armour for a while but I'm pretty sure that you can only level it up to level 6.  When you start hitting larger monsters, you're going to need something a bit more suited to the job.  Some of the monsters poison you, therefore an anti-poison skill comes in very handy!  You can also mix and match the armours to create your own specific skills, although I like to collect and wear the suits as 'whole suits'.  I want to look good out on the plains.  You never know when you're going to bump into some ladies and you want to look your best!Smile

Armour spheres will keep coming thick and fast (ish) and you be able to mine them later on.

I love the switch-axe, although it is a tad slow.  I love the great sword too.  Both slow weapons but they do a massive amount of damage.  I have Demon Soul's to thank for being able to play with a large unweildy weapon!  Make one, try it out, just remember that you have to approach the monster with a lot more caution, and plan your strikes accordingly.  Keep rolling!  Saying that, you could try the great sword first.  You can block with it like the sword and shield.  Learn the combo's for the weapons as well.  There's nearly always one that starts by hitting the '+' (plus) button which I didn't learn for ages.

Rare commodities will come.  You have to hunt in the Moga Woods and go back and 'check in' with the Village Chief's son.  I think if yuou choose 'generate hunt report' from his menu then he'll swap your kills for points and give you commodities.  The boats can also bring them in, but I'm not sure if you've reached that bit yet.  I got a 'shed load' of commodities for catching a Lagiacrus when I was out in the Moga Woods.  I think capturing gives you greater rewards.

Good luck.

^ What he said ^ but I'd get a set of Jaggi made up if you can then go for some Qorepeco which will last you for quite a while.

Armour Sphere's – If you've got them use them, they'll be plenty more coming along later.

I'm a one trick pony when it comes to weapons so its always the Lance for me.

Dont forget the Arena quests which are still single player but can turf over some tasty gear.

Dont forget to eat if you've unlocked the Cafe?

Feeding Cha Cha gives some handy bonuses on his stats and attitude.

Keep going brother it only gets better! Smile

I now have a mostly Jaggi Armour except with Ludroth pants. Actually I like the look of Ludroth pants but don't have any options to make the rest of the suit yet, but I'll try to if I can.

Thanks for the help. I'll play more today and check back in.

Hope you all don't mind my n00b posts but this game is one that you want to talk about.

Went online today. For some reason I didn't expect much from the multiplayer, but I was so wrong.  This game has just gone from a 10/10 to a 20/10 for me.

Did a few first tier quests then joined a hunter (Shadow – awesome hunting mate) who was about HR 8 I think and we took down a Royal Ludroth without any faints. I took about 30 mins or so. I was ducking a diving and trying to stay alive, getting my hits in when I could. He must have done about 90% of the damage at least with his electrical great sword. My feeble Commander's Dagger barely scratching the beasts thick hide.

But just when I had run out of mega potions, we put in a final effort and down it went. A cheer went up, heard across Lok Lok.

Loving this game. If you have a Wii and you have not played this game you are crazy. If you can afford a Wii and you haven't got one to play this game you are only slightly less crazy. The single player is great, the multiplayer is even better, and I still haven't entered the arena. It may end up giving it a 30 out of 10!

Yep, multiplayer is a hell of a lot of fun.  I've had some good times with randoms in online matches.  It's really fun NOT being able to talk to people.

You get to know them through their actions, not words.  We do have fun over Skype though, when we get together as a Midlife Gamer team!

I love the Ludroth armour.  It really helped me take down the Lagiacrus.

Kepp it going brother! Thumbs Up

I nearly didn't watch it all, but from 2:45 to 3:40 isn't that Monster Hunter Patapon? Either way, that's the most fantastic thing I've seen since the installing data screen in MHFU. Day 1 purchase, unless I have to learn Japanese because it never gets an English language release.

Monster Hunter Diary Confused

Meanwhile us 'real men' who know what a Wii's for and are not ashamed to use it continue with our now age old tradition of ending the evening on a low.

7 traps and more than 24 tranquillisers and the 4 of us can't cant capture Two Barroths in a single sitting. This game knows how to put you in your place when you think you know what you're doing.
