My current desktop isn't really up to modern gaming.  It is a Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz with 2 gig and a HF 5750 card.

There are a lot of things coming out that I MUST play, and I know this won't cut it.  So I have decided to treat my family to a new PC.  Well, I will be getting the new one. They can have the old one to play WoW on smile

I am almost decided on this spec from Overclockers UK.

Intel i5 2500K oc to 4.4Ghz.

8 gig DDR3 1600Mhz RAM

GeForce GTX570 1280MB DDR5

A solid state drive for Windows and 500GB for storage.

New monitor, Gaming mouse and KB.

Any comments before I order?  Another company I haven't heard of had a not quite so nice i7 setup for a fair bit less.  But I have read in many places that an i7 chip is kind of wasted in gaming.

Out of interest this is so I can play the Star Wars MMO, {cough cough}TS2012 at more than 10 FPS{cough}, Planetside 2 (I am so excited about this) and Carrier Command.

Sounds splendid.

I just did a post about a PC I built last week: http://www.midlifegamer.net/fo…..-pc-build/

Only thing I would say is if you fancy a go at it you can inevitably build the same spec machine cheaper buying the bits from EBuyer and usualy end up with better quality, I saved a few hundred.  Also dont scrimp on the PSU and case for when you inevitably start tinkering and upgrading bits down the line, unbranded PSU's usualy lead to a world of Blue Screen hurt on a perfomance machine.

The i7 2600k is a mighty fine CPU for gaming however I went for the i5 2500k and load rarely hits anywhere near 100%, with games these days its all about the GPU, thats why I went down the Crossfire line, and the 570 card you have picked is mighty fine, it will blast through SWTOR.

Hey.  I agree that I could build myself the same spec for less, but the one thing I really hate is assembling a PC!  I have probably built 4 or 5 and every time it stressed me out!

My current PC was an off the shelf job and it was a much nicer experience.  This is a halfway house smile

I was originally going to get an Alienware x51, but common sense took over.

All ordered.  Now all I have to do is wait.  I'm not very good at waiting.  When I spend money I need immediate access to my toys!

It is out for delivery tomorrow!  That is surprising.

I have 5 days off work.

I was supposed to take the kids to see some wrestling tomorrow.  Poor kids.

I added a new keyboard Roccat Isku, Kodak 5.1 printer (yawn) and a USB Competition Pro joystick!!

I can run TS2012 at more than 10 FPS now! Also, FSX flies

Haven't tried much more, but I am slowly installing my collection onto the rapidly filling up HD. I
am already a member of the Steam group with my geek account, I will add my other account later.
