Well its out there in the wild and i'm a little concious that the title for this month is hard to get a hold of, at least under the £7 mark but I think its fair to say ALOT of people loved this game.
Let us know how you got on, even if you didnt replay it, we still want to hear your thoughts from your previous experiences.
Remember People, our favourite writeup gets a Front Page post for all to enjoy.

To express how I truly feel about Batman Arkham Asylum, and to get the whole game of the month thing going I decided to write a plagiaristic poem.
Gunmen are red
Detective vision is blue
Harley Quinn is fit
Don’t you think so too?
I'll write a proper review in time.

Well gamestation this morning: 'Have you got Batman Arkham Asylum' yes mate £14.99. So I ask about the GOTY edition, and he say's no. So I'm off to game, and find BAA for 17.99, so I ask him can you do this for 14.99 as it is round the corner, no it went up £3 this morning, they should be selling it there for 17.99 as well.
I go back to gamestation, and take the 14.99 copy, and he says yes I've just been phoned by the manager of game and asked why its not been hiked in price yet. So good luck at getting it for under £8.
I had it on PC, so I bought a wired 360 controller as I will be away a lot this month and will be unable to give the PS3 the love it deserves. I'll let you know how it goes, first playthrough will be PS3.

If anyone wants to kill 2 birds and try out Onlive at same time, you can pay 6.99 for a month access to their play pack bundle which includes Arkham Asylum. Can't trade afterwards of course but it is the GOTY edition…

Fantastic I haven't played it in years.
Frankly though it looked a lot better back in the day. Revolutionary isometric graphics, 2 tone sound and bat-boots for jumping.
However the game was blooming difficult ,the jumping has to be pixel perfect, making for a lot of frustration.

Oh…wow….Lucien21.
You just sent me spiralling back to my youth.
'Holy limited to 4 colours Batman!'
It may not look much to the young 'uns of today but that was pure gaming gold in our day. Thanks for the memories!

Well I've just started and put in an hour on normal level. What can I say, I'm playing it on the PS3 and the graphics are awesome, though there is some clipping and occasionally the old girl is struggling to keep up. there was a bit of stutter in the opening video but it didn't mar the experience. I have read a lot of reviews on this game, and they all concentrate on how good it is – you know I really should buy games based on recommendations.
Next – well after Assassins creed it was familiar territory, bit of climbing, hiding jumping on people but hey what a difference 2 years make. I just performed my first 3 silent kills, and I like detective vision so much it is pretty much my default view. Collectables? How many?? Ive found riddler trophies, interview types, spirit of Arkham glyphs and every 2 minutes I am getting character bio unlocked – or something else unlocked. I've got the brady guide, but I am first going to complete it on normal then go back and do all the collectables. Just finding little cubby holes and vents all the time nothing is straighforward, I could easily spend 2 – 3 hours going everywhere on this level alone.
The game is dark and the riddler is more in keeping with the latest Heath Ledger than the Jack Nicholas version, he really is a psychopath and unsettling – evryone hates clowns (except GoddTodd – you know its wrong). Harlequin is hot, but then again that may be just me. I've just died because i decided to go for a beat 3 blokes up in a courtyard, and 2 had machine guns – not wise. But it was great taking the first one out with a gliding kick, and Ive got to stop playing because I've an early start tomorrow. I got my arse kicked by some fellow who then went and died and I am expecting to see more of his type later in the game. then guess what – only a bloody suit upgrade!!! I think someone has gone throught the game checklist and said :
Collectables – tick
Beat em up – tick
Platform -tick
Detective bits – tick
Stealth – tick
Narrative – tick
It does seem to have covered all the bases. Its gone to the menu screen and I can see i have 3 % completed the game – jeez how big is it. I haven't even touched downloadable content yet!!! I'm away tomorrow and in Bristol on wednesday night if anyone fancies a pint, so I'll have to have a bit of a hiatus after tomorrow and switch to my PC version.
So far it has been 15 quid well spent, and it isn't too repetitive.

It took me about a days worth of playing to get the 9 move kill streak but my God it felt Class! Loved this game. I loved…..
1. Perching Batman up on a ledge, putting the controller down, picking up a bacon roll,
2. Taking a good bite and whilst chewing contemplating the drop kick
3. grab a cup and take a swig of tae and wonder if dropping down a grabbing the guy ad stringing him up is preferable
4. Make an aaaah sound after the tea and go for the bat-a-rang to spook him out then drop behind him and knock him out.
Bloody love this game

Well I was dubious. We broke the £8 rule and the choice of Batman seemed to be little more than a populist choice timed to coincide with Arkham Cities release on Friday. I had read the review and never really followed it up. I now am eating my words.
I just had my arse handed to me by Kane and just had to let you know how its going. The game reminds me of Metroid Prime, with the way that as I explore I find more and more areas that are locked, and I know I will be able to go back when I have better powers. Combat is a bit of a mash fest, but that isnt getting the combo metre high enough. The challenges give you a chance to improve your battle tactics.
The riddler challenges are a nice touch, but sometimes the detective mode does not seem to want to lock on. i am looking at the radio, I am zooming at the radio, I am kicking the radio – its the fucking radio. Eventually it unlocks, but I dont know why. I have upgraded my armour and have a silent takedown ability, sitting on the gargoyle waiting for the bad guys to walk underneath me. The stealth bits, and I dont like stealth games in genral hit the right balance, the bad guys aren't stupid but they're not in the MGS league either. It would have been nice to be able to hide bodies, I had a bit where I took a guy down and I wanted to hide the body, before anybody else could find it but there wasnt an option.
I like the new batman films, and this game catches the atmosphere perfectly. The Spiderman games have normally been the best superhero games, but this one knocks them out of the park. The voice acting is phenomenal (this somebody say it was Mark Hamil), the chatter on the radio and the TV station with messages from the Joker. Its like playing a movie at times. The game has skipped to a 2D platformer at one stage, and along with beat em up, I only wonder do I get to drive the batmobile, and why dont I have those plugs you put up your nose to stop gas attack (a la 60s TV show).
So thank you guys, its going great, the only down side is that Arkham City is now looking like a Day 1 – and I rarely bye games new.
Awesome

Otto,
Are you playing on a PC?
The radio descrambling is done via rumble feedback on a controller.
I'm not entirely sure how it's supposed to be done on a PC with a mouse and keyboard.

Well I'm 36% in now, and I've got the radio decoder and grappling hook which is making finding the riddlers trophies easier (oh and the maps he leaves behind- ddduuurrr). Its still got me and I've hardly touched the challenges yet.
Swooping down on thugs and taking them out – yeah I'm BATMAN!!
The unlockables are coming too fast and you can see the care that has gone into this licence, every single character bio has a full history, and the secrets of Arkham Asylum are telling a dark story. The interview tapes are well put together and fill holes in the story – was this actually written by the guys who write the comics?? It sticks so much to the lore, and feels so right I think it must be.The old favourites are popping up, but there are also cameo appearances from some of the less well known characters. The freedom is great, but I am just wishing for some kind of explosive batarang for the out of reach areas – no doubt I'll get that later. theres an ublockable there, i can see it but the glass is five foot above my hand and I can't blow it up. the storlyline is really mature and the bad guys suitably evil. I've now got loonies who run at me and bite my head off who are a bit of a pain, and the shock stick guys are worse than the gun guys – at least you can counter and disarm guys. I've also had a few suitably unnerving visits by scarecrow and even though i had hims as a bit of a joke – he is really unnerving the way he messes with yur mind. I am learning that there is a style to it, and it is easier than mashing if you use the right combos.
Atmosphere is fantastic, and there are a few change my pants moments. The more you learn about the place, the more you find new cubby holes, what about going under the floor and emerging out of a duct as a bad guy walks above you – or just swoop down and kick them. What if I string up a thug and drop him on his mate when he comes to investigate him. the ordinary baddies are getting tougher now, so I think it must scale the difficulty as you progress. I am playing it on PS3 so I have the rumble as I decode a radio signal, but there are still some I cannot hack – mainly because the control points are not accessible.
I am clearing up the trophies as I go, so I'll clear the trophies on normal and then go again on hard. then it might be challenge time, but I really need to work on those combos.

Otto,
Once you get the Bear Claw most of those trophies will become easy to get.
Yes, I really liked the Rouge's Gallery trading cards that you collect and I especialy liked how a lot of the Riddler's Riddles tie into tableux's relating to these characters.
My only regret was not stealthfully using the explosive gells more often to take out baddies. Once I tricked out the explosive gels completly and was going back to the hospital ward levels to pick up riddler trophies I was slapping myself in the head going, "I could have taken that guy out by puting a gel on the other side of the wall and taken out the guy comming to investigate with a proximity detector gel."
That's one of the things I'm going to try to do more of in Arkham City; Explosive Gel Combos.

I bought this game on Steam about a year ago for 3.75 BARGAIN! I played it until about half way through until I lost my save game due to HDD failure – but after looking at this forum today got fired up and started again. Such a great game, great graphics – great moves and it's dark and brooding – all very nice and Batmanny (WHAT? that's an adjective…honest)
One thing I don't understand is the whole push A (or what ever it is on other systems…) to open the grills. What a waste of time, probably could have made some mini game there to undo the bolts or somesuch – ach it's no big deal and not a gamebreaker though. Great Game.

Hi,
Good to see others stopping me from hogging the thread!! I am 58% complete now, met killer croc (easy) and those bloody scarecrow levels. There was a great level with 7 armed thugs patrolling an area and I couldnt use my normal tactics – that was a tester, took a couple of hours to get passed that (maybe because I have no patience and I'm bobbins at games). I now have a supergrapple and the riddlers trophies are falling thick and fast, I'm kicking mself for trying so hard earleir on to get trophies that if I had waited would have been easy. I have also noticed that not only are the hoods getting more numerous they are also tougher – more shockers, more crazed lunes who you need to stun before damaging - and one armed thug with a gun will kill you if your not careful. I got complacent and took 5 out of the 7 killed on the aformentioned level, I thought I can take 2 hand to hand, wrong – one dead bat!! You need to respect even the basic hoods.
I have dabbled on one of the challenges and didnt get a grade, so I can see the replayability – maybe post some scores on here and have a club competition?? This has really whet my appetite for Gotham City, but I will now have a break from my PS3 (and posting in this for a week) because of work.
I didnt sllep the night before last, and last night was a 4am finish. I was in bed at 4am thinking about how to get the next trophies and how I could defeat some of the baddies without a batarang. When a game gets you like this, it speaks volume!! Both of the game, and your OCD!!
Cheers

To start I should probably reveal that I have a long and varied history with Batman. I read the comics as a prepubescent teen, played the games when I broke into gaming, and watched all the movies, dreadful though they may be.
To that end the epitome of batman gaming in my eyes was Batman the Movie: the Video Game. (Admittedly not a great title, but definitely a Ronseal title).
Since then, the contrived and generally badly created tie-in games have been almost as bad and copious in number as the Star Wars franchise.
Then came 2009, and a little known band of gents called Rocksteady Studios espousing a new Batman iteration. Script and story written by Paul Dini exclusively for the game, and with voice acting from the then ultimate Joker and Batman, Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy who up until that point, had lent their voices to the extremely dark Batman animated series for nearly a decade.
In case you are wondering, my Joker Top 3 are Hamill, Nicholson and Romero, in that order.
With no movie tie in to spoil the situation, things were looking up for the Batman Video game franchise, but I was a bit worried about such an unknown development studio, and could they live up to the Batman name without any real previous titles under their belt.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
From the outset, driving along in the batmobile and walking through the halls of Arkham Asylum, with the clearly insane Joker at your side spouting rhetoric sets the tone, and it was clear that this was the gritty side of the dark knight that I had hoped for.
The warning sign as you enter Arkham "hitchhikers may be escaped prisoners" gives an indication of the dark, but humorous way in which this game would loving treat the franchise.
The game starts slowly, and the introductory levels introduce the combat very well, but it gave the indication of a simple beat-em up. Again, I couldn't have been more wrong. Once you level up and can purchase your first upgrade from Waynetech, you can see that there is a lot of variation available.
Taking on Zsasz introduces the basics of the stealth activities you can undertake, but once again in the simplest form possible.
This game, has one of the most fluid and dynamic combat systems I have ever had the joy to experience or watch, and the slow mo finisher varies so much dependant on your attack that it never grows old. It also has one of the most intricate stealth systems, that I have yet to see surpassed, which ties your ability to hide in the shadows, with your multitude of gadgets to strategise to take down your armed adversaries with the minimum of notice, before jumping in to take on those unarmed thugs in a good old round of hand to hand combat.
Finding the right balance between stealth and combat is a must in this game, even more so if playing on Hard mode, where 1-2 gunshot wounds WILL kill you outright.
It is at this point that another nice touch is introduced. Dependent on the mission you are currently undertaking decides which villain comments on your demise when you do die (and on hard mode this can happen numerous times in a row). At this point, the genius that is Rocksteady had the main characters record multiple lines of dialogue, and as such each death is followed by a dynamically assigned response from the aforementioned villain.
From the outset, I could see that a lot of love, care and attention to detail were provided by Rocksteady and it paid off in dividends.
Without a doubt one of the finest games of 2009, and I'm happy to say its sequel is so far living up to the lofty reputation AA has created.
Further to the main quest, the Riddler has also been hard at work, and within every area are perspective puzzles, riddles and trophies to be found, which without giving anything away, provides one of the best side stories I have experienced in any game.
It does say a lot for a game, that no matter what you are doing, finding and solving puzzles, beating up random thugs, tracking down jokers teeth, wandering around to find the areas where a new toy can be used or just progressing the main quest, I never once got bored of the game for a moment. A joyous time-sink from start to finish, this game achieves 9/10 on its own merits (its my opinion that NO game is perfect) but it gets an extra point to take it to 10/10 for something it did outside the game.
A lot of forum focus was put on a bug in the PC game, whereby if you try to use your glide function, Batman would instead flap his arms like an insane birdand plummet like a rock.
It was revealed by Rocksteady, that this was a deliberate glitch installed in the code of the PC version of Batman AA. So not only is Batman taking on the Joker, Bane, killer Croc, the Scarecrow and The Riddler, to name a few, but he also decided to right the wrongs of the real world and take on the Videogame pirates as well.
Is there nothing the dark knight can’t do?
It is my honest opinion that this game deserves to be on everyone's game shelf, and shouldn't be allowed to sit on anyone’s POS. If you have it there now, and have any love for the Batman franchise, then please play this game. It’s very seldom that something this balanced and enjoyable comes along. Savour it while you can.

Spent the weekend playing this after picking up the GOTY edition for a measly $15 brand new. About 10hrs in and i've done the story and got all the riddler trophies/riddles etc., and i'm just starting on my favorite bit from the demo – the predator challenges.
This game really got its hooks into me and it's not often a game does that. I'm a picky bastard really. But i think it's the way they have blended gameplay styles and character abilities to make players feel what it's like to be batman.
Firstly, the fighting is simple enough that you don't feel overwhelmed with controls, but the counter, combo and multiplier attacks provide enough variation to make it satisfying. It seems appropriate to batmans character that when faced with 20 thugs, the combat channels you into out-maneuvering your enemies rather than charging in. And when you do get hit you don't feel cheated, even if you're massively outnumbered.
The visceral feel is also satisfying in a gruesome way. The slow-mo critical hits remind me of mortal combat the way you sense bones breaking and teeth flying out on impact. Then at the end of each fight there's a feeling of dishing out gotham justice as batman adjusts his gloves, bats swirl around and the camera pans to show a roomful of broken bodies. Job done.
Then there are the gadgets. These make for some cool game mechanics and navigation around the game. The grapple, explosive gel, decoder, batarangs, line launcher etc. are all embedded into the game rather than one-off gimmicks serving one mission. And the world is littered with opportunities to use them however you like.
For instance, a sniper on a tower – will I batarang then incapacitate, linelaunch in and attack, grapple up and pull over the ledge, glide on the roof and lay some explosive gel, lure out with sonic batarang and grapple hook down the stairs…Pulling off mad shit like this made me think of jokers line in Burton's movie: "where does he get those wonderful toys?"
Finally, the detective mode. This really makes you feel like a dangerous (and possibly demented) superhero stalking from above. At first it feels unfair as you dispatch unarmed henchmen one-by-one. Your stealthy observation and plotting not matched by any sense of vulnerability. But then the armed guards and exploding gargoyles appear, and it becomes a beautifully pitched fight. Not experienced anything like this since Thief on the PC.
And this is where i'm at now, playing the predator challenge rooms and throwing different tactics at the goons. Terrorize them with batarangs, rip them from landings, explode them across the room, create grotesque landscapes with rows of hanging henchmen, or simply survive! All accompanied by the jokers commentary. Just like in the main game, these predator rooms seem to distill the appeal of being batman – outnumbered and outgunned but invisible, resourceful and scary as fuck.
There's still stuff wrong with it. My wife asked "where is gotham?" and i had to agree, for lots of the campaign it's more like jurassic park than gotham city. There's a lot of narrow, winding corridors which don't help when your character is 4ft wide, the map isn't that intuitive, and the final boss fight is bollocks.
But those problems aside, it's such an amazing game i feel guilty paying only $15.

Batman: Arkham Asylum had a lot to live up to when it was first released.
Batman has always been my favourite comic book hero, but licensed games are crap, they are always dreadful…it's like a rule.
Image my surprise when this turned out to not only be the best Superhero game ever, but quite possibly the best game of that year.
At the time when I played it I said..
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Without a doubt the best comic book superhero game i've played in a long long time.
It takes the basic idea and name from the Grant Morrison comic, steeps it in a host of Batman mythos and a smattering of Bioshock and blends it all into a fun, addictive game.
Joker has taken over the mental asylum and it's up to Batman to stop his latest caper. Using the island as a hub you travel from building to building trying to outsmart Joker and along the way fight with such villians as Killer Croc,
Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.
I haven't been this hooked by a game since I finished Dead Space playing the game constant since I bought it on Friday.
Deceptivly simple combat mechanics aside (it's more about the flow of combat rather than combo's. So with just a couple of buttons you can string together some impressive fighting moves) most things in this game
are superb. I really loved the detective mode watching all the skeletons of the bad guys walking around, sneaking from place to place taking them down one at a time and listening to the rest panic until
there was one left and then glide down from above and knock him out.
The voice acting (Mark Hamil as Joker ), the level design, the atmosphere, attention to detail for Batfans, the
clever use of the Riddler to get you finding the 240 riddles and clues he has spread across the levels (unlike the stupid flags in assassins Creed you really want to find all the Riddler tokens and solve all the puzzles) it's all great.
So I finished the game on Normal difficulty, found all the riddlers puzzle stuff, solved the secret of
Arkham, defeated most of my enemies in one night, crashed a party and kicked ass.
Superb.
9/10
Playing it again and it's sequel Arkham City has cemented the experience as one of the best games i've played in the last five years.
Where does he get those wonderful toys?
Batman has always been about his gadgets and here there are a ton of them, from Batarangs to explosive gel. There are a ton of ways to take out the enemy.
Gadget upgrades allowed you to find more riddler stuff and access areas blocked off to you to further the story.
The most useful gadget of all is the detective vision, which allows you to see the enemies through walls etc so that you can sneak up behind then and take them out silently. My favourite was the hang from the gargoyle
and dangle takedown.
I want you to do it. Come on, hit me. *Hit me!*
The fight system is deceptively simple, with one touch hits and directional controls, but you will soon be stringing together combos of 20 plus hits and countering enemies as they try to sucker punch you. Vaulting over
the head of a goon and planting your foot in his back has never been so much fun. The flow of the system boarders on hypnotic in it's fluidity.
Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
While the combat with the goons is a lot of fun, this is slightly tempered by the boss fights which revert to the old a pattern based attacks. Some of them are superb like the creepy as hell Scarecrow levels and some are just plain dreadful (Croc i'm looking at you.)
I'm Batman!
The voice work and atmosphere literally drips with atmosphere from the comics and movies. Superlative audio work from Mark Hamill as the Joker taunts you over the PA for most of the game, but the other characters are just as good. The level design, story and atmosphere might have more than a dash of Bioshock in it, but that's fine by me. The fight
mechanics, stealth and detective mode are the closest you can come to being Batman short of them inventing a holodeck.

ditto on that. ACII is the only game i've platinumed and even though the flags appeal to my ocd and preference for exploration over actual skill, they were a nightmare compared to the riddler trohpies.

Batman Arkham Asylum.
To express how I truly feel about Batman Arkham Asylum, and to get the whole game of the month thing going I decided to write a plagiaristic poem.
Gunmen are red
Detective vision is blue
Harley Quinn is fit
Don’t you think so too?
Wasn’t that fun? Now own with the review.
Batman Arkham Asylum. Where do I start? At the beginning I don’t hear you cry out since this is coming from the past. Batman AA starts on a dark and stormy night. Batman has brought the Joker to Arkham. As you (as Batman) walk through the corridors of the asylum your ears are burning with little snippets of story bait. Has Batman has won against the harlequin hoodlum. BAM KAPOW CRASH and the Joker has broken loose. So we have the setup to the brilliant story ahead of us. With guest appearances from your favourite villains. This surely promises to be the caped crusaders darkest and finest hour.
First a little bit of history and context: We’d all waited years for a superhero game that truly delivers on the promise of making us feel like a superhero; there are a few games that made me feel like a one of the all powerful: Spiderman was well realised in Ultimate Spiderman and Spiderman 2. Superman had his dignity pounded over a barrel in his game outings and the X-men just decided to beat the crap out of each other in their games. Batman has had his fair share of video game outings with his first being all the way back in 1986. In recent years Batman got a movie tie in game based on Christopher Nolan’s film Batman Begins. He’s appeared in the DC vs Mortal Kombat and even appeared as a LEGO character in LEGO Batman (if your surprised by that I advise you see a doctor). But none of these gaming outings have ever made me feel like the dark knight. First announced in 2008 by relatively unknown developer Rocksteady; Batman Arkham Asylum played its card’s on the table with its first teaser trailer; gone are the camp “holy hotdogs” of Adam West and Joel Schumacher’s pun based crime against humanity that is Batman and Robin. Here we had a game that was faithful to the source material of comics. It’s clear to see elements of comics such as The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum woven deep into the games DNA. Of course the cartoon show inspired a lot of the game’s character. A lot of voice talent from the cartoon is carried over to the game and it sure helps; with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Kevin Conroy (someone) returning to their roles of the Joker and Batman respectively. Thats the nasty lesson out the way on to the game!
First let’s start with the graphics and ting. Batman AA was made using the Unreal 3 engine, the same one that was used for Mass Effect and Gears of War franchises. It’s hardly surprising then that most of the character models look like they are steroid abusing junkies, but in world of where Killer Croc can exist I think we can overlook that. All Major and named characters look pretty good. In some of the lesser characters such as Guards Cash and Boles the faces look a bit odd, but since I bought the game to look at Batman and the Joker I don’t really mind. The model for Batman looks very good, with the model becoming beaten and battered as the night goes on, which adds to the idea that this is Batman’s worst night every. The environments are great looking with both wide open and indoor areas looking very detailed. As the night progresses the island of Arkham does change with *SPOILERS* huge plants trying to kill you (the Bat-weed killer would be an appreciated gadget.) and all these changes are well realised with previously easy sets of terrain now becoming perilous hazards (the insane inmates being a particular nuisance). All the environments are littered with Riddler challenges, which give you a great reason to explore for little references to Batman characters with visual clues hidden all around. Aside from the wonderful little Batman lore snippets, another role of the Riddler’s challenges is to give you XP to level up your Batman to do all sorts of crazy stuff, which in my world leads us nicely to the next topic.
Combat in Batman AA is sort of divided into two main sections: predator mode and badass bar room brawler mode. Predator mode is the stealth section of the game. When the henchman have guns and a direct “your mumma so fat” approach will end in buckshot in the frontal lobes you go stealth mofo on the bad guys. When entering predator mode it’s usually wise to grapple to handy gargoyle (even the sewers have these) once up on your perch, detective vision is the next wise course. From your vantage point you can survey the area and plot your how to take each of these henchman in the most efficient/badass way. As the game progress the foes you face will become more fiendish, making old tactics useless for instance: putting proximity mines on the gargoyles is clearly the result of a diseased mind. Due to the henchman AI every foray into predator mode is different with some travelling in pairs or running off on their own in fear. The second section of combat is the brilliant ‘Free-flow combat system’ which works with the player to allow you to pull off huge combos (my Record combo is 89) . Combat starts simply with one button punching, another counters and that’s pretty much it to start with, however very quickly you can do special moves with your cape to stun your foes, you can throw them at their chums or simply break their arm and snap their shins in twain. Most of the gadgets you attain during the campaign can be used during combat, while some are more useful than others it can be fun to use the line launcher for to do a flying drop kick right in a henchman’s in the face. By the way if anyone found a way to comatose a baddie using the sequencer gadget I will award you a leg of your meat of your choice.
I don’t think I can go any further without mentioning detective vision. Detective vision was basically Batman’s way of identifying where henchmen are, Riddler challenges, points of interest and more. This mode is your most useful tool and when the game was first released reviews would often say that detective vision was too useful and it was possible to have it on all the time. I personally found DV (I’m tired of typing detective vision) really not to be that much of a problem. I can see how DV could be seen to be a pest but to me it was just another tool designed to help me kick ass.
After you’ve finished the game you can continue travelling around the island to hunt for Riddler trophies or you can do challenge mode which is made up of predator or combat challenges. Each different predator challenge map has certain special objectives that increase your score such as “Beat thug out cold using a shoe” (more realistic examples are available. In combat challenges you score points by building up a massive combo using as many different techniques as possible, in this mode you get the more points for never getting hit by thugs or by keeping the combo up the entire round. Each challenge has an extreme mode that makes things very difficult but very satisfying indeed. By the way anyone whoever managed to beat ‘Shock and Awe’ on extreme is a Witch and will feel fiery justice in hell.
Batman Arkham Asylum is my all time favourite superhero game (sorry Ulitmate Spiderman and Prototype) I’ve yet to play Arkham City but from what i’ve read and seen i’m sure it will deliver on my hopes for more Batman goodness.

Well I'm back, but HD tv is on blink, doh!
Can I endure a composite input, does it do the game justice? Will I get another 14 days to complete it? Bearing in mind it was announced mid October? Is there any point writing a review when I look at the quality of the other guys?.
stay tuned as batman takes on the HD fiend

I played through this game when it was first released and at the time I remember being genuinely surprised by how good the game was as well as how much I enjoyed my time playing. Sure the standard enemies were all a bit generic and the Bosses were not the ones I would have originally liked but they fit well with the story and the general aesthetic feel of the game.
The writing is witty, the graphics show the dark side of the bats personality well and the sound and music builds a very atmospheric environment for our caped hero to hunt in. The gadgets and gizmos you expect are all there as well as some interesting additions to the arsenal allowing a problem solving element to what is essentially a beat-em-up title.
Arkham Asylum deserves to be have a place in the consoles and computers of comic lovers and gamers alike, this is best superhero game I have ever played and the benchmark for superhero games going forward.
