I noticed that Final Fantasy V and Far Cry 2 are free with Playstation Plus just now. I've had my PS3 for about a month (Xbox is my maun console)….can canyone tell me if Playstation Plus is worth the subscription?

PSN ID is StevoA-76-

I think it's worth the subscription just for the special offers.. Worth noting, though, that ending your subscription also disables the 'freebies' Don't get nothing for free in this world I guess.

I wonder if anyone on my friends list currently subscribed to the service will renew their contract when it expires?

Like yourself my main console is the Xbox. I've had the PS Plus for nearly a year now, and got a handful of decent games (definitely £40 worth) but the majority of them are sat in my virtual pile o' shame on the PS dashboard.

Normally each month you'll get a decent ish game (e.g. Far Cry 2) which you could probably pick up 2nd hard for a couple of quid, and the rest seem to be PSone classics, a hand full of mini games, themes and avatar items.

I know you also get the background updated (a scheduled 2 hour window) which will download patches and updates as well as the mighty 150Mb online storage, however this works a bit crap in my opinion. Unlike M$ who allow you to select the cloud storage as a save location, PS will use the 2 hour window to upload your saves as well as sync your trophies AND download the updates. Obviously your PS3 will need to be on standby and connected to the web for this to happen.

My one year is up next month and I'm not sure if I'm going to renew, I know the games on the dashboard will cease to work, but to be honest I'm not really that fussed about them.

Let's see I'm understanding this correctly then. I pay Sony £40 for a year to get Plus. I get to download some free games such as Far Cry 2. But when the year is up and I decide not to renew, I'm then unable to play any of the games that are supposedly free?
