I need more convincing.
Really enjoyed Oblivian, but I need a bit advancement on the tech. Its been years and lessons have been learned – but the last thing I need is more "stop you violated the law"

I'm so juiced for this game, loved Oblivion, loved Morrowind even more!
I do agree though that the psychic guards, who seemingly know you shoplifted a spoon from a small village halfway across the continent, do need to be changed. As does the bloody stupid idea of everything in the world levelling up at the same time you do, totally mitigating any feeling of power or advancement you might get

Agree that all those changes need to be made. I do believe they are rolling with a brand new Engine for Skyrim so fingers crossed. Also anyone else think that Skyrim sounds like some sort of acrobatic sex manouver?

It couldn't be as foggy as Morrowwind was…. and to be honest.. if its got less escort missions and more hack, slash ,kill that would be cool.
Question is Fire mage or full on tank?

Understand what Matt and Chtulu are saying about the drawbacks of oblivion but it was easily the best game for to hit the current gen systems when it arrived. Heck nothing came lose to its scope for ages. Its been a long time since oblivion and they done a great job on fallout in the mean time especially in terms of style and the introduction of the VATs system. Fallout felt like an update on oblivion but skyrim has greater expectations. it can't just feel like an update, a slight improvement, it has to be near perfect.

I remember when I played Oblivion, I too was blown away at the scale of that game.
Can we all please agree though that we DONT want VATS in Skyrim?

I don't see how VATs could be relevant to Skyrim. Surely with spells and hand to hand combat require a different type of system. With guns, fair enough I could cope with it, it reminded me of john woo movies where everything goes in slow motion as the bullet is about to leave the gun. I have heard that they have completely revised the combat system… I hope so, its definitely and area of weakness.

This looks immense but there are three major issues that must be addressed before I will play it.
1. The awful combat system from Oblivion. Seriously, it was crap.
2. The levelling. I really hated the fact that each area or level in Oblivion was tied to your own, so there was no point going off and levelling up. You could simply walk through the whole game at level one because the baddies were scaled to your ability. Only a non-gamer would think that this was a good idea ("oh look, it'll make the challenge equal and rewarding no matter what level you are!"). Walking into a minor bandits' lair and facing level twenty master combatants hurling fireballs and equipped with flaming ice swords of death was stupidly tedious. That's why I gave up after a few hours.
3. The tediously dull quests that can be game breakers, like vampirism, must be removed. If they want to give us freedom in a massive game world, please don't so obviously break it.

I need SKYRIM!!!
Dragon age is scratching my RPG itch like its got mittens on.
Its ok though.
V.A.T.S could be relevant for use with an assasin type class but……. Yeah they should leave it out really.
I just hope you can make your own spells and have more freedom like in oblivion and steer away from the pre-set cool weapons of fallout 3.
Oh yeah Fallout Vegas was rubbish

I have a dilemma. I was about to put my pre-order in and can't decide on format.
360 or PS3? Those who saw it at EG, was there any noticeable difference between the two? Normally I go for 360 because of live, but that isn't relevant here.

I've gone Xbox. Just seems right to my wierdly functioning mind due to Morrowind being on original Xbox and Oblivion first appearing on 360. Spiritual home and all that (well at least on console as I can't afford a kick ass PC rig).
Had real issues playing Fallout games on PS3 for a variety of reasons (some of which were also present on the 360) but sure the PS3 version of Skyrim will perform just as well in the new / updated engine.
I so cannot wait until a week Friday when I can return to Tamriel…

Tepic,
I'm not sure what format skyrim was on I think im right in saying I played the 360 version. This was my opinion of that demo.
Still frames were beautiful, really immersive and the world had a real sense of Identity. Unfortunately as soon as you began moving across terrain there was a noticeable blurring at the bottom of the screen that was very off putting. I'm no Digital Foundry tech wizard so I couldn't tell you if this was a system problem, a game development problem or a tv set up problem (to be fair for an expo showing games for the first time it seemed like everyone forgot to set their respective tvs up on many games, lots of grey and milky displays right next to a perfectly good looking one). Its worth stressing this was only the demo mind.
I have seen many online videos, none of them have the blurring but I saw it with my own eyes and it has made me think twice about a day one purchase. Which is a shame because I have wanted this game since I finished oblivion (in my eyes the first actual current gen game when it was released) years ago. I intend to either have read a review or watch the game instore before anding over my money because for me it was a big issue and I would rather wait until it was fixed with an update so i could enjoy the game properly if needs be.

Ive got a great PC but still gone for the 360 version… Im going to be putting hundreds of hours into this so want it on the massive tv, wireless pad and comfy setee rather than sat at the desk.
Ive ordered through Asda and got it for £30… they take payment straight away so hoping they send it out early… pleeeeease god!

Yep, ordered mine from Asda as well. What a great price with that discount code. I was going to trade in Gears 3, as I'm having real difficulty finishing it, but I think I'll keep it for a while longer and try and finish it.
Roll on next Friday, although I bet it doesn't turn up on launch day!

Agreed. I'm definitely waiting until closer the time of release.
One thing that really caught my eye in the gameplay trailer (besides the FREAKING MASSIVE DRAGON!) was the UI in the menus. Very modern and sleek in a game set in ancient times. I've heard many complaints about it but I have to say, I love it.

I'm reserving Christmas for Skyward Sword. Skyrim should keep me going until then, although Zelda will never come down in price so perhaps I'm doing it the wrong way round!!!

Afraid I've had mine on pre-order since June, although I did get an email advising of my "Premium Quality World Map" being included in the game box when its despatched.
I would have to agree, that VATS has no place in Skyrim, and I did enjoy the revised combat when I played it at Eurogamer. Looks and feels a lot more fluid.
Counting down the hours until I can play as my Orc Spellsword….
