Dave, know exactly what you mean. Around 40 hrs in and only done 2 of the main campaign quests! Been going balls deep with the mage college in winterhold side quests.

Is it just me or does anyone else think about this game when they are not playing it? I find myself during the day planning out what tasks/quests I'm going to do that night!

Oh yeah.

I've spent many an insomniatic night, laying in bed, mentaly grinding potions, so I could mentaly create a better fortify enchantment potion, so that I could make a better set of enchanted smithing clothes to wear, so that I could smith myself a slightly better glass bow.

yea.. why is it on my mind like 90% of the day? started playing my 360 version, gone for a destruction mage with fire, i feel its gonna be a bit harder as i have to concentrate on a few different skills i think…?, and with the archer it was just bow and my smithing. so far im heading to the grey beards then im gonna head off to the mage school/college or what ever its called.

Got it for Christmas and apart from a bit of Saints Row 3, not played much else. I find it hard to stay focussed. It's just too easy to wander off and do something other than what you said you'd do five minutes earlier. And I don't know what I trees I should be levelling up. I've joined the Mage college but I've not levelled up enough to do dual casting yet. It's dead good though. Fireball in one hand, sparkly axe in the other – it's like medieval Bioshock!

Have just finished it and enjoyed it massively bar two criticisms.

1. Was a bit too easy to become a double ninja hard bastard. About 3/4 of the way through I had smithing, armour and enchanting at 100%. That enabled me to go duel wielding a couple of daedric double enchanted swords that did something like 125 damage per hit. Dragons and giants would usually take 1-2 hits from these before keeling over.

2. The ending.  No description of the ending in here, just my take on it.

Appreciate it's an open world game but something like the ending to the fallout stories where you see the consequences of your action wouldn't have gone amiss.

GoddTodd:

I liked the ending just fine. Loved the Valhalla bit. But for me at least, the ending of the main quest was the epilogue with Paartharnax. I was a pretty nasty thief. People would help or train me and I'd rob them blind. I'd kill people for deidric weeapons. And I may have killed Paartharnax if he hadn't made a very good case that despite a core dark nature, and a history of bad deads, that it is still possible to start down and follow a more nobel path. Can that path ultimatly lead to redemption for past deads or change your core nature? Maybe, Maybe Not. But that doesn't discount the the free will choice to be a better person (or dragon).

And the impact of that discussion has now affected the story lines I've chosen to follow since the end of the main quest. So, in a way, I think there were moral implications of how the main quest ended, and that I had the free will to choose weather those implications made an impact on my character.

I placed my reply inside Deeg's spoiler tags.

Quick question:

When starting the revolution-type quests (joining the imperial scum or stormcloaks) does that close of any large quests or achievements?

Pisa boiler – doing a quest for the companions to kill some witches and get their heads, but the guy who I needed to return to is dead! Oh well no great loss I thought but then I realised I couldn't ditch the witches heads as they are 'quest items' so now I'm stuck with 4 haha.heads I can't ditch at 4 weight each!!! Which with being a small stealthy elf is really buggering my dungeon raising!

Afaik none of the side quests effect the main quest line much but joining the Imperials will close off the stormcloak quest lines and vice versa and lose the finishing achievment for the quest line. Otherwise I think the only way to close off quest lines is by killing the relevent npc.

Anybody else found that suicidal dragons love attacking winterhold college  or have permanant hostile guards in Markuth from doing the forsaken quests ?

I have done about 60 hours, only skill at 100 is smithing but I spammed it making loads of hide bracers because I wanted my Dragon Armour.

I found this scenario familier:

Right I am too tight to buy a house so I have kept all my stuff in a cupboard at the mages college. Lets load up on some Dragon bones and scales and go make some stuff. Theres my trusty sidekick Faendal, you can carry some stuff for me too. Right off we go out the door. Oh bugger its another Dragon in the college grounds I have not seen one of them since….Oh i dont know every time I come here. Lets take him out!.

Clang, bash, conjure etc……..

Another dead dragon. some more scales and bones. I am over encumbered with stuff.

Back to the cupboard…….

Baron, making iron daggers is a sure fire way of getting smithing to 100.

Over 50 hours in, level 30 and only one side questline completed!

ive not been on for a while now, i think the obsession with getting my skills up rather than playing the story lines has killed it a bit for me. ive been trying to be a dedicated destruction  mage but its rather hard sticking to it, obviously i need some stuff to heal like potions or restoration magic but i keep branching off and trying new things. lol

Just finished it (main quest, all faction and side/misc achievements) with around 70 hours playtime which I think is the longest I've played any  non mmo game apart from maybe ultima IV.

Great game which actually lived up to the hype which considering how much hype there was is amazing and that music is just awesome smile. Will prob buy again when cheap and finish off the quests and achievements but need a break for now.

OK Baron.

You want a 100% skill?

How about Speachcraft? Go to the Black-Briar Meadery. Talk to Ungrien at the front desk. Ask him about Maven Black-Briar. Persuade him to tell you what he really thinks. Turn down sound on TV or headphones, put on the latest MLG podcast and REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT. By the end of the podcast you'll at 100%.

How about Blocking.

The next time you see a bear by the river, pull out a shield, stand with your back to the river, and hold down the block button. Put on a podcast. By the end of said podcast you'll be at 100%

But what's the most important skill to grind? I've said it before, I'll say it again.

PICKPOCKETING!!!

If you become good at pickpocketing, you can train in other skills and pick the pocket of your trainer. FREE TRAINING!

115 hours in and I've broke it cry

The music (which is normally brilliant) is now permanently stuck in battle mode. I've lost Shadowmere. I've gimped the companion quests so that I'm now head of the group but there are loads of quest giver arrows on all the other members.

Now playing on with the music turned down. I can't backtrack now I'm too far in!

Oh and I forgot my inventory now includes a flute and a drum and a bloody lute which I have already returned to the Bards guild but they're stuck in there.

Stuck in a loop with in the Thieves Guild quest Hard Answers, I would not mind but I’ve done this before I got the latest update. But I realised way to late what the dragon priest mask were for so started again.

Now when I go and talk to Enthir all he can say is ‘This going to bad for business’ I’m close to just stabbing him. I just want to get through the nightingale armour.

You need to complete the Mage College quest line and then all the MPC's will start acting normally again.

At least the ones that are still alive wink

Still ploughing way to many hours into this game. Kept telling myself to take a break and tackle my ever growing pile of shame, including my PS Vita, but started reading Game of Thrones and that got me hooked all over again.

Currently doing the civil war quest line and sided with the empire. DIE REBEL SCUM.

long time no here – just reading the thread

Myself done mage / theives / dark on the last act of the main quest just learnt the dragon summoning shout.

Smithing 100

Enchanting 100

Few others 90+

Damn them daedric bows doing 120+ with paralyse & soul capture and a daedric dagger doing the same enchants

Get the house in Windhelm – during the civil war quest – 21-24Kish for nice sized house (fully decorated) with plenty of storage and an enchanting & alchemy station

Has anyone else had their thieves larceny targets glitch – pick up the "boat" from snow veil and doesnt prompt me to take it to delvin grrrrr

Illusion 100 quick use Muffle everywhere and just levels up illusion as you go

Shame the alteration ones (oakflesh etc.) doesn;t do the same.

One daedric quest which is essential is the azures star – go for the white path and you get the follower who is conjurer and with her you conjuring can have 4 attackers in a fight laugh

@ Pat, great tip re muffle.

Almost 100 hours in, aiming for my first ever platinum and the civil war quest line appeared to break on me. Im playing for the empire and just captured fort greenwell. So i go to the next quest giver and there's no option in the dialogue tree to start the next quest. Gutted.
