About a week before this is out and metacritic seems to be filling up with tasty video reviews.
http://www.metacritic.com/game…..ic-reviews
Scores probably immaterial (especially the eurogamer uproar) since most ps3 owners either want more uncharted, or never took to the previous games.
Personally, this franchise is my only day 1 purchase of the year. It's like playing the raiders of the lost arc game that lucasarts never bothered making.
So who else is getting this and how you gonna roll?
Think i'll play it on easy just so i don't look too shit in front of the missus (she loves the story in these games but still laughs when i get gunned down). Then probably normal for a treasure and trophy run.

Sadly this won't be a Day One purchase for me…purely down to funding issues. What with Dark Souls, Forza, BF3 & MW3 that's my gaming budget pretty much sewn up. I'll pick it up next year, or maybe even when it comes out on Platinum. That's the beauty of SP games…no rush to buy before everyone deserts the servers.

I downloaded the beta multiplayer (PS Plus perk from a week or two back) and, in the two games I played, got ab-so-lute-ly shot to bits. I'm not the best at MP games (putting it mildly) but to find myself up against players so good so quickly probably means I'll only dip into the MP part of the game or face a real case of low self esteem! Not sure if there will be any player matchmaking in the full release but found my level 1 Nathan-Noob up against level 27 and higher (and it had only been available for a day when I played it).
I totally agree with Dan's comment about whether people will play it or not. You can definitely agree with some of the Eurogamer points (main gameplay is about moving from one incredible setpiece to the other) but that's what an Uncharted game is – there's nout out there that does what UC games do so well. Otherwise we could all moan about Oblivion's lack of killstreaks (12 cave goblins and counting…where's my air strike?)
If you liked UC1 and 2, this game looks like it will blow your socks clean off.

I'm not buying this game on first day it only got 8/10
no not really, agree with Dan as well, its amazing how many people react to an arbitrary number. Never mind the 1000s of words that create a more vivid picture of what the game is like.
ACB got 10/10 and a game *I* prefer LA Noire got 8/10.
Killzone 3 was given 8 as well I think whilst a digital foundry article on the same page said it was an essential purchase for ps3 owners.

This is what i thought when i saw the giantbomb piece and read eurogamer.
It's not the score, but the nature of the reasoning which is confusing. Thing is, 99% of games are reviewed by discussing highs and lows in comparison to their peers. It's when mags spot a chance for some naval-gazing wankery that things seem silly and opportunistic.
Silly because they didn't just chuck it in an editorial. Opportunistic because reviewing games by genre limitations could only be done for a AAA sequels which, by their success, defined the genre expectations now being turned against them.
Might aswell knock forza's gameplay for feeling like it's on rails. Silly billys.

Ive just played the first 3 hrs of the game and WOW..love the beginning to the game..looks stunning but the acting and voice work in the cutscenes is simply the best ive ever seen in a game..really looking forward to seeing how this story pans out.I traded Arkham city in for this and so far it does everything better than that game..in my humble opinion..

I played the barfight scene in HMV (demo pod thingy) and thought it was 'ok' that particular scene isn't 'proper' UC though. Wanted to buy today but can't justify the expense at the moment as I'm moving house soon but it's the next one on my list to get!

Played about 6hrs yesterday and just got to my first bit in the desert, the bit with the cargo plane.
Starts off slow with lots or melee and climbing missions, but changes to more combat heavy chapters a couple of hours in.
I'll put the rest behind spoilers.
The docks and boat level are my favorites so far. Fighting a battle on the docks with boats and platforms rising and falling in the waves is pretty cool. But the battles in the cruise liner and the way the level transforms as it capsizes are unbelievably good level design.
I spent a good minute perched on that life-boat crane just watching the waves and taking in the scope of the level.
I have found some of the mini-battles between set pieces a little bit short and spammy though. I'm more a fan of the "here's a desert town full of enemies, or a cruise ship ballroom, go get 'em" rather than "here's 3 or 4 goons we've put in your way before another cut scene happens which will take us to a proper level"
I guess it's supposed to be pacing, but on 1st play through when you don't know if it's going to be a proper combat level i find myself hoping their won't be a cutscene behind the next door, but another marketplace full of bad guys and a sniper rifle conveniently left against a pillar.
Liking the way the characters back story is playing into the events and motivations too. Never thought i'd give much of a shit, but 3 games is a lot of time to spend with the same people.

Just finished this one…great game but not as good as uncharted 2. Nothing matches the urban fighting, train to catch and monastery combat missions in 2. And the puzzles arent as good as the big path of light one either.
If anyone is thinking of getting this for the bonuses/modifiers for second play thru then think again because there aren't any. I always like going back through a previously tough level and blowing the shit out of enemies with ininite ammo and crazy firepower, but apparently not in 3. Not even a donut drake skin.
So, seeing as ive not used the online code, think i'll chuck it on ebay and get something else. Fun while it lasted, but without modifiers i can't be arsed playing it again with so many other games coming up.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception
Pure cinematic gold on a blu-ray disc.
Uncharted is unapologetic in it's aspiration to be a big budget action adventure game. (Anyone looking for open world games should look elsewhere). This is a very narrow game that moves you from set piece to set piece.
However, who cares, when it looks and plays as gorgeous as this. Sunlight streaming through the trees, the water and sand physics, the fire effects etc etc are all absolutely stunning. You follow Nathan as he once again crosses the globe in search of another lost city and immeasurable wealth.
From England to France, Syria and the Deserts of Africa. I was hooked from beginning to end as the story focused in on the father/son relationship between Sully and Nathan. I couldn't stop playing as every time it paused it threw a sinking ship or a crashing plane sequence. Hooked into finding the next twist in the tale.
While none of the set pieces quite hit the heights of the 2nd game (with the train level or the helicopter across the rooftops sequence), they were still a lot of fun to play and exciting as hell.
I finished the game in two sittings (in 9hs 15mins according to the stats)
While not quite Uncharted 2, I Loved it.
9/10

You hit the nail on the head, cinematic. Unfortunately, to me anyway, that doesn't equate to a great video game.
There are moments of magic, the cargo plane sequence is breathtaking, but there are so many niggles for me. Shooting from cover is almost useless, run and gun works better, and Drakes animation can get in the way of responsiveness. The bad guys move a lot faster too and the shoot-outs are less strategic, again run and gun and hand-to-hand combat seems to be the order of the day. The hand-to-hand combat feels sluggish compared to Batman. And while the visuals are stunning they are a bit too colourful for my taste, I think Assassins Creed looks better.
I have to agree with Eurogamers review on this one, its an 8 for me.

Seeing as this can be had now for £25 I think I'll be happy if it even just matches UC2
