What is the longest period that you have ever played a game for?

I have spent more than 14 years playing 'The Sentinel Returns' trying to finish all 10,000 screens. Still not anywhere near completed yet though. That and the hard as nails SWIV3D which I go back to every so often (and have for about the same length of time) are probably the two games that I have played for the longest, not counting the odd return to ZX Spectrum and Arcade cabinet roms.

So as per the title of this posting, what games have you played for extended periods.. and how long for?

I put nearly 100 hours into a train simulator.

Hold on, that wasn't me. I was thinking of someone else laugh

I have been known to put in a good 2-3 days of gaming with only small breaks in between, but that is pretty rare these days.

I did put a couple of days into Infamous 2 to finish it up this week.

Most games apart from MMO's don't have the lenght these days. I remember putting months into the likes of Baldur's Gate back in the day.

Ok, the obvious answer for current generation is Oblivion on ps3 (didn't have a 360 then) with 100 hours plus. Although I know that this is still a weedy figure for Oblivion I would have done more but for the YLOD – haven't got time to go through it all again with all the new titles around now.

Going back to my Amiga and PC days, it's gotta be Anco's Kick Off and Sensible World of Soccer (in all their various guides).  Haven't got a definite figure but I reckon I played them permanently between 1989 and 1996.

I recently added up my Fallout 3 saves. Close to 300 hours.

And I'm not embarrassed by that.

Has got to be either modern warfare (cod4) or counter strike (hl1 engine verion).

I have no record of the hours spent in those games, thank god! But im sure they number in the hundreds / thousands.

Come to think of it actually…. i did play legend of mir2 back in the day…. that may be the top spot! Got two characters up to over level 30…. and trust me when i say that that was a REAL GRIND!

Most amount of hours logged on steam for a single game at the moment would probably be civ5 at 120 hours…. but i know ive played other games more than that.

I spent so many hours playing Doom, breaks my heart to think of it.

I had literally hundreds of wad files in folders, I still remember typing 'doom -file aod.wad' to replace the audio, sad.

Nowadays I don't really want to play a game a lot, if I get 10 hours in and I'm not finished I start to get itchy fingers to move on.

Speaking of gaming for long periods.

It would be nice to get some MLG love on my Extralife donation page.

http://www.extra-life.org/inde…..antID=4422

I'm raising money for charity on the promise that I will game for 24 straight hours.

Doners get to watch me devolve on the webfeed.

The longest time in one sitting was just over 9 hours playing Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain on the original Playstation round about 1996.I got up on the Saturday morning after a heavy night on the beer and just decided to have a lazy day gaming..However i never expected to be sat on it for 9 straight hours. The game was one of my favourites from the 90s and id love to see a HD remake.

I know it's sad, but I used to play Janes 688(I) attack sub in real time. So we are talking 9 hour sessions sometimes, and for weeks on end. I still get it out occasionally (oo er miss us) and have a quick go. A 16 hour session of medieval total war was also a regular, baldurs gate still needs completing.

I have a bit of a soft spot for sub sims ( hence the gamer tag, I was silent Otto, but when I changed from xbox to xbox 360 I had o change to silent Otto ii). I also spent hours on just cause which was greatly under-rated and great fun.

So there you go, not an answer, because I don't know. My steam account has 50 + hours on Dawn of war, but strangely, over 70 hours playing typer shark deluxe, which is slightly odd because I don't remember it, and if my account had been hacked I would think of other games to play!!!

OK this got me thinking about my play time on my favourite shooters and and I'm currently clocking in at about 209 hours on COD Black OPS (8 days 17 hrs) and about 63 hours on BF Bad Company 2. Then I remembered I had BC2 on PC and when I converted to Xbox I got it again. I definitely remember getting the 5 day play award so my total play time is at least 183 hours (7 days 15 hrs)……….I'm not addicted I can stop at any time!

When I was checking out my stats on BC2 I looked at the leader boards for the big boys & girls and HOLY SHIT BALLS! Check this out for proper addiction!!!

Now then, the 'top' for playtime is coming in at a colossal 4208 hours (175 days!!!!!!!) Now, I did a bit more digging and found out when the top player ('sleepyKurtymac') first went online with this game and this was 553 days ago and this works out to be 7.6 hours per day!

……….I'm not addicted I can stop at any time!  Based on this, I think I can.surprised

Well…have been playing Chaos on the Spectrum for around 25-26 years on and off – there aren't many weeks go by without me getting a few games in.  To give you an idea, I have the original on Spectrum as well as a copy on my iPhone and running on emulators for PC, Nintendo DS and PSP.

I did spend a day continuously trying to beat Gauntlet (also on the Speccy) back when I was a nipper and have since put in serious time on a variety of newer games.  I think recently, I spent most time in one sitting on Bioshock 1 and Star Wars Galaxies.

Football Manager / Championship Manager also has a lot to answer for (as well as encouraging me to come up with new and interesting swearwords)…

Oh yeah – nearly forgot – The Sentinel is an awesome game.  Never got round to picking up Sentinel Returns, but am keeping my eyes open for it these days!

I am so jealous. That has to be one of my favorite games. I can't get my CD to install using Vista.

As of this posting, I have played about 660+ hours of Rainbow Six Vegas 2.  RichieDee, I know what you're saying about the rechargable battery packs.

I mainly play multiplayer. I still have yet to finish any of the story as single player, or co-op. Also, still have a couple of terrorist hunt maps to complete. Every time I log in to play and finish that "me against the AI" content, off to multiplayer I go.

Im supprised noone mentions WoW here…surprised

I have 5 years in that game and just recently started a new period.  It was worst in Vanilla, at that time i had some months away from work and i played 24/7 for a few months only sleeping when i fell into a coma infront of the PC. Or when my wife told me off for not spending time with her.

Brrrr, dont ever want to go back to that addictionconfused

I think admitting to playing WOW in a gamers forum is pretty much like a crack addicted admitting to having a problem whilst in rehab, we've all been there and we pray nightly we never go back. but i'll admit i too played WOW and was bullied relentlessly for being both a paladin tank and the gayest blood elf anyone had ever seen.

For me, Final Fantasy 9 for 24 hours but the winner is Pokemon…. A full 2 DAYS!

it was like a sweat shop 5 guys in the same room with the kettle, coffee and a plume of smoke having the occasional break to play Goldeneye or Perfect dark.

In terms of total time played it would be Oblivion when i was unemployed. I played that bad boy for at least 300+ and i was listening to Depeche Mode and Aphex twin. To this day those albums remind me of sitting in my grubby old flat with no bed and eating cheap noodles mashing up Orcs and inevitably getting to the point where i would say "Hmm i think i will try another class".

Pushing 11 years on Neopets.com, yes I am THAT cool!

Otherwise, maybe the old Tony Hawks 2 on the Playstation. I played that every night after school for about a year, many, many hours spent happily trying to a million points.
