The game is £3.75 at time of writing on Steam and runs like a dream on my pretty poor laptop with no GFX card, so there's no excuse. At under £4 I reckon it's worth a game or two, plus – I believe – you can set up private matches of up to 64 players… MLGBF2 matches?
Any takers?

I know of a Teamspeak server we can use as well. Or did you have something else in mind for comms?

Cool! I think it has built in chat, or we could use Steam's chat functionality? To be honest, this will be my first online PC game, so I'm open to suggestions.

I've played in a PC gaming clan since 2004, (well, less of a clan now, and more of a group of old men not able to let go of childish things ) and in my experience, Teamspeak or Ventrilo are the superior ways of communicating. The drawbacks are they you need someone to host a server for it, but like I said, I have that avaliable. But I'm open to other schools of thought of course. This is your show, xero.

It's likely to become a shit show to be honest
Why don't we experiment with some different solutions tomorrow? I'm on my holidaze from Tuesday until Thursday next, so plenty of time to get excited and get some practice in, plus we'll know how to roll.
Hugo, you continue to be a hero of epic proportions. Young Jim will be a mighty addition.

Nice, count me in!
Could you guys post your Steam names so I can add you all as a friend?
Mine: Deadlegends
I agree in on the Ventrillo front, I used it many moons ago for Guild Wars and TF2 and it served me very well indeed. Teamspeak… not so much. I found that Vent had higher quality output. Anyway, let's do this thing! Section 8 wet my appetite for some good clean BF2!

I'm up for giving this a try. Been ages since I played a 'hardcore' PC FPS so I'm fully prepared to stink at this! Have added you to Steam Xero and joined the MLG steam group (steam ID Benjo321).

Some users, according to the BF2 official forums, are reporting that uninstalling and reinstalling fixes both altered_ego and Jim's problems. Might be worth a shot? I'm jumping in now for a session by the way.

Some good games tonight guys :-D There did seem to be a lot of helicopters falling out of the sky and landing on my head though!
A better voice chat system is a must, it weren't exactly great in the steam chat and by the sound of it the steam overlay causes the punkbuster booting in public games.
I'm gonna see if I can get any more takers over on the Frugal Gaming forum to try and fill out a server a bit more.

If like me you have been sat violently scratching your freshly talcum powdered gentlemans plums trying to work out how to access all the add ons for the Battlefield 2:Complete Collection you recently downloaded…. please see below I recieved back from Steam.
Considering its about the most complicated process I have ever seen Im suprised these directions didnt come with the game… in the words of my grandad… its pisspotical
Hello Matthew, All copies of Battlefield 2 purchased on Steam come with the Special Forces expansion, as well as the Euro Forces and Armored Fury mini-expansions. The Battlefield 2: Euro Forces and Armored Fury mini-expansions can be accessed through the main Battlefield 2 game. The following maps are from Euro Forces: -Great Wall -Operation Smokescreen -Taraba Quarry These maps are from Armored Fury: -Midnight Sun -Operation Harvest -Operation Road Rage To access Battlefield 2: Special Forces, please take the following steps: 1) Open Battlefield 2 and log in to your Battlefield 2 account. 2) Once logged in in Battlefield 2, click the Community Button, then Custom Games. 3) Select the "xPack" game, which should also be labeled "Battlefield 2: Special Forces" and click Activate in the lower right. You will then be asked to restart the game. Once restarted, you should have access to Special Forces content. This must be repeated each time you wish to play Battlefield 2: Special Forces.
