daveyboy is my name lol, im just refreshing myself with the game. it seems like they hold your hand a bit more since i played, eg.. showing you on the map where the quest location is. to be honest i did prefer reading the quest log and finding it myself.
but no worries it wont put me off.

cool dave
I should have mentioned there is a naming policy on this server, ill paste the details in – you might want to petition to change your name or re-roll as otherwise you are likely to get reported by one of the role play police - although roleplaying itself is not enforced on laurelin they can be fussy about character and guild names
Role-Play Character names
In order to create such an immersive
role-playing experience for our players, all character names created
and their characteristics are required to be believable and should be
considered to be within the “sprit of the game” storyline. The following additional standards are to be adhered to when naming and creating your character:
- Characters names must reflect the time period:
- Names should not refer to names that reflect modern, nick-names and non-fantasy names like: Daz, Bruce, Jimbo
- All characters names whether fictional or real, must be within the sprit of the characters, storyline and Tolkien's world.
Please note: As you are playing on
role-playing worlds, any requests to rename your character are only
undertaken after review and consultation of the guidelines. Any player
found not complying with these rules will be asked to rename their
character. If the Customer continues to violate this rule, the character
will then be renamed for them automatically.
If you feel your character's name does
comply to the above set of rules, Codemasters will review the name and
if after review it is still found not to be compliant, the customer will
be asked to change it. Codemasters' decision is final.

Having googling (without trying to spoil it) the Epic Prologue for the Elf/Hunter it appears I maybe about 7 quests away from reaching the point where I have to go and see strider. So looks like I might be looking at trying to do some fast travel in order not to level up to much.

dont worry too much about the level – as long as you dont do too much grinding/side questing you will prbably finish prologue at 11-12 which is fine
which reminds me elf/dwarf can do this together after a certain point – do you fancy grouping up to do it together? any other elves/dwarves welcome of course

latest character list
mikeydredlox – Dredlin, Guardian
Cagedthunder – Vagel, Hunter
altered_ego – Deanen, Hunter
craigieh – Sparco, Minstrel
anceint gamer – Vixana, Burglar
mixindave – Dramorian, Captain
duggydarko – Dullaghan – Champion
this is looking like a really good mix of classes
7 is a good number tbh, 6 is group maximum but there will usually be one person who cant make it for whatever reason, so we should always have a full group or thereabouts when we need it
we need 8 to form a guild (kinship) but can use alts

I might start putting some tips in here for those new to lotro – feel free to contribute
one useful thing to know is that if you press ctrl and # you undock various parts of the UI which you can then drag around the screen and position wherever you like
its not as cutomisable as wow but this certainly helps
another thing to check out is deeds and character traits – you may often see little rosettes and medals popping up on the bottom right of your screen, when you click on these you will be taken to your deeds log – when you achieve a certain number you are awarded with traits eg patience, courage etc – which give you some nice stat bonuses – you have to visit a bard to allocate these – eventually you will find you have filled up all your slots, but will gain more as you level, enabling you to swap traits around according to your situation eg a guardian might trait more defensively for a group, then change to a more attacking higher dps build when soloing – bards can be found in the larger towns eg bree-town, gondamon, they have a lute above their head

I got my ass handed to me doing some of the epic prologue today, well I say me it was more like the NPC that I was with. This one in particular….
QUEST: To Avert a War (requires Mutual Dislike)
Langlas has formed a plan to rescue Avorthal from the Dourhand camp and is ready to carry it out.
went to the Dourhand camp and they gave him and me a good pasting lol!
I'll have another go tomorrow still loving it though.

press o to bring up social panel, select friends tab, click on add friend button and type in friends name
I will linvite you into the kinship, we have to be both online at the same time – Dramorian can also do this as he is officer
if you can post in here when you are due to play next so I can try to get on with you

no need to apologise for being a noob, we all are at one time or another
its hard enough being new to a game and getting used to the GUI and game mechanics, but some of you I see are new to mmo's and there really is a huge amount to learn about the genre – theres a whole new language to learn for one thing (aoe, con, rez, mez, aggro, mob, dps, dot, pvp. pve, rvr, tank etc etc)
please dont hesitate to ask up if you arent sure about anything
oh and of course there is the whole tolkien lore thing as well, but i am sure everyone here will have read lord of the rings, or at least seen the movies (its not essential but it helps)
I see most of us are on twitter, it would be good if we could all make sure we are following each other so we can arrange stuff away from the game without always having to post in here
I should be on late afternoon tomorrow if not in the evening

yikes – breaking news!!!
it appears that Helms Deep has been disbanded – I received an email yesterday to say we had 5 days to recruit a total of 8 members or it would be disbanded and it appears some weird time shift has occurred
anyways not to worry its easy to start it up again, but I suggest we do it when we are all online and if possible get any alts in as well just to make sure
I would suggest our first meet up should be this coming monday – dont worry if you havent all finished the prologue, it might be best just to get some side questing done so we can get used to grouping up together
if all 7 of us are online at once we will need to split into 2 groups as 6 is the maximum fellowhsip size

Monday is good with me. Still stuck doing the prologue with my Elf/hunter, so I'm going to setup a new character. I just hope you get to pick which character you want to keep when the game goes free as I think your only allowed one character per server.
Can you move your characters around on ther servers?

free will only be 1 char per server, you might want to read the faq and comparison table I posted a link to earlier in this thread
it should be pretty easy to get to premium status though – you become this automatically if you have been a previous subscriber OR you purchase turbine points – presumably you trade these in for in game goodies
its a way of getting your credit card details essentially so you are more likely to pay for content
premium is definitely worth having as you get:
-
What is a Premium player? How will I become one?
You are automatically upgraded from Free player to Premium player
status with your first purchase of Turbine Points in the LOTRO Store.
LOTRO grants all Premium players 2 extra character slots, extends the
maximum amount of gold you can carry from 2 gold to 5 gold, and provides
you with a higher login priority, more mail and chat options, full
access to all of LOTRO's Community features, and 30 days of full
customer service from the time of your last purchase.
Are you a former subscriber to LOTRO? Did you purchase and play the
game in the past but never subscribed? In either case, you are
automatically upgraded to Premium status when you come back to play.
To learn more about the Premium player benefits click here.
