I have a feeling that in time Helms Deep may actually become an unofficial MLG chatroom – it may actually make a nice change from all this virtual killing we feel compelled to do night after night!

them spiders gots to die….

oh, I just knew when going to find the pages of Bali's notes that when I see the boss level spider Iolanthe or whatever he's called, that I'd have to repeat killing him and do that quest again to kill him, as I hadnt been given that quest yet.

i have the Head here to give you in my inventory, but all you can say is, 'watch out, she can be a tricky enemy or summat'.

MMO's are very stupid sometimes. Only thing being I'll get my XP for advanced spider killing…

Mixindave what server is your 54 hunter on?

I have a mid 50's hunter plus a few level 30s on snowbourn plus all my money!

I don't suppose everyone would like to re-start on snowbourn?  I could probably get everyone into my guild on that server which is for mature gamers. This  would give access to people who know what they are doing in instances (so we can get good items and finish Vol 2) plus they have a kin house etc. Also they are a very helpful bunch of people who help out newbies and will craft equipment if you ask nicely.

We wouldn't have our own guild but we could all still group together.

Any takers or have you all got too attached (and spent to much time) to your characters on Laurelin?

I'd be happy with that – would they rename their guild to Helms Deep if we asked nicely? Wink

Do they have a website / forum we could take a look at?

from an earlier post it looks like mixindaves lev 50 is also on snowbourn

I dont mind joining an established guild so long as its not full of kids, and we are all guaranteed to be allowed in – as well as any future mlg'ers

what im not so keen on though is running through instances with people who have done them before and know what they are doing eg 'careful theres a huge troll round this corner' etc etc

some people might find this helpful as it can reduce your chance of suffering an untimely death, but I see this kind of thing as a massive series of spoilers, I've been there too many times before – the game is reduced to getting to the end of the instance as quickly as possible and maximising loot, rather than a real immersive gaming experience

another thing that can ruin mmo's imho is getting 'twinked' from high level players ie being given high level items which are way better than any drops or quest items you might receive – hence devaluing the effort you put into getting your quest rewards in favour of trying to get the most 'uber' gear

what do other people think?

Here's their forum.  This is a mature guild so no kids in fact several people are over 50 and I'm not sure there are any under 30.

Let me know what you think.  I can post on the forum to see if they would let you all in before we change servers.

I haven't been offered any 'uber' equipment but I know that other people have supplied materials to crafters to get decent stuff for their level.

Most of the good stuff in LOTRO seems to be non-drop or quest rewards anyway so twinking in the old sense (like in Everquest) doesn't seem to be too much of an issue.

Taking part in instance runs is of course optional so it would up to the individual.  Very laid back guild you are not expected to take part in anything.  I guess their only concern maybe that we would be a guild within a guild but as I said I can ask them how they feel.

In any event we would have some higher level characters on snowbourn to help us out if we need it.  Even if these are just mixindave and my characters.  Also as mixindave and my characters are high level hunters we can port everyone all over middle earth to get to the quest areas we need.

Actually thinking about it there is a second option.

We can just reform Helms Deep on snowbourn to take advantage of dave and my higher level characters and their porting abilities.

I could put my lower level burglar etc in helms deep.  If we need more muscle I am sure I could get a few guildies from last alliance to help us out occasionally.  We could even affiliate helms deep to last alliance for the purpose of instance runs.

Or we could just stay put on laurelin of course as I would understand if people don't want to restart their characters.

yea my 54 is on snow, hasnt been used for a few years though, just getting back into it). is it true that you can do book instances solo now?  gives you a big buff or something?  sounds good cos i cant find players sometimes, and would love to finish the book for shadows of angmar.  i bought the mines but only scratched the surface of that.

Being a noob to the game, it probably doesnt matter either way to be honest.

My character is only level 10 and hasn't taken me very long to get there, so if people want to reform on another server thats ok.

But I'm keen to get as unspoilered an experience as is possible. I'm happy to stick together in our own guild and as people drop away etc, other people might want to join in, and might be put off by a non-MLG guild. I don't really know. Ideally we want to be as welcoming to new people as possible, I would imagine.

As usual, I'll go with the consensus, but if I was asked to sway one way or the other I would say that we should see how we get on numbers wise etc for a couple of weeks and then make the jump if a better experience would be served up

altered-ego – I think your suggestion sounds best.

Dave- That's correct I soloed the whole of vol 1 recently.  Vol 2 tho still needs groups occasionally.

I've only done the first bit of the mines of moria.  It's quite cool at first but to be honest i miss the sky!  still when and if i get thru to lothlorien i'm sure it will be worth it.

Yes I agree I think we should stick with Helms Deep for the time being and see how it goes, so far its been really nice getting the few of us juiced for this as a new experience closely tied with MLG and this could easily be lost if we are swallowed up by a larger guild

I do like the idea though of being allied to the last alliance, particularly as there is a chance Helms Deep may not survive – the problem being if numbers drop below 8 we would be disbanded – it gives us the opportunity to bail out if Helms Deep doesnt work and still be part of an established guild – it also gives AG and Dave a chance to keep their higher level characters going alongside their lower level characters. It would also help to boost our own kin numbers and reduce the risk of us folding.

My lev 34 runey would probably come over to Snowbourn, I dont mind paying the transfer fee as his previous guild has gone under.

The longer we waited the more painful it would be to move (if we eventually decided to) and start afresh, unless we paid for a server transfer.

So it seems we are agreed on keeping Helms Deep going, the question is do we reform on Snowbourn and start new characters or stick with Laurelin??

Mikey – when F2P gets up and running it may be (or may be not) possible to pay for a character transfer with turbine points so you may want to wait.

BTW I can't guarantee an alliance with the last alliance guild as I not an officer but I am happy to ask.

There is a recruiting thread on the lotro forum so we could try and attract more members to both helms deep and MLG in general.

moving to Snow and reforming Helms Deep as soon as we have 8 characters in total would be my vote – I would suggest we wait a little while though so that other forum mebers who may not have spoken yet can have their say too, I'd like to see a consensus on this, and I wouldnt want anyone too hacked off about having to re-roll

although as altered-ego mentioned it doesnt take long to get to lev 10, and sometimes its nice to do it all again just to realise what a hash you made of it first time around Wink

thanks for the heads up about the transfer – a formal alliance may not be necessary, just having links will be enough for our needs at least in the early stages

as for recruiting I would much rather we stay small and close knit and have people who share the MLG mindset rather than go outside for new members – I fully intend to keep pimping Helms Deep on this forum though, and MLG gets new members through all the time

if we are going to re-roll is everyone sticking with their original class?

it would be good to hear from craigeh as hes been quiet for a few days – if he's too busy with work then one of us may have to consider going minstrel – it would be very helpful to have at least one healer amongst our merry little band

Hey just completed the introductory quests (I think!) and added you all as friends. Get me in the guild and let me know what the plan is. I will stick with me little hobbit minstrel! Will try to get on much as possible as am really enjoying it so far…

..as if by magic

well the plan is we move servers to Snowbourn if everyone is agreed – which means rolling a new character and doing them quests all over again (unless you re-roll as an elf or dwarf in which case you start in a different zone with a different set of quests)

 - the dwarf minstrel shout is sooo much more manly than the little whelp of the hobbit, (if that matters to you!!!)

I was think of rolling in the new server with human/champion, is that possible or do we already have too many of that class.  No worries if we have I'm happy to stay as an elf/hunter.

OK so it seems like people are happy with the move to Snowbourne – if people can post what their new character names, classes and race are ill get this list updated

mikeydredlox – Dredorin, human guardian

altered_ego – hunter

cagedthunder – champion

craigieh – minstrel ?

mixindave – roychubbybrown, captain

ancient gamer – ? burglar

duggydarko – ? champion

(a lore master would be a nice addition for crowd control, but probably requires an experienced mmo player to play well)
