Hi All,
Thought I would eventually come out and post on the forum and I have to follow the legendary Misogyny. I kinda feel like the human version of a disappointing boyband encore now.
Ok so where to start, started gaming on an Atari 2600 and I think I ended up with about half a dozen games the only two I can really remember owning though are Spce Invaders and Star Wars (complete with it's twisty paddle joysticks). Dabbled with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum but I can remmeber hardly anything about playing this apart from the rubber keys. From there onto the Commodore 64 where my gaming really took off Manic Miner, Monty on the Run, and Big Mac to name just…well..umm three.
Progressed to the Commodore 128 (Do you see a pattern forming?) which I remember having to hold the commodore key on bootup so it loaded the C64 operating system (did anyone make use of those extra 64k's of RAM?)
Ok, I can really ramble about this so long story short:
Amiga 500
Amiga 500+
Amiga 600
Amiga 1200
Ninetendo Game Boy
Sega Master System II
SNES
Amiga CD32
Playstation
Playstation 2
PSP
Playstation 3
And this is where I currently am – mainly due to my Daughter and my bump of unknown sex. (well my good lady's bump, it's not like I am actually carrying it like a bad Arnie film or anything)
Due to Daughter, good lady and bump I have an evergrowing pile of shame that anyone would be proud/ashamed of, which once I find the bound-to-be-here-somewhere topic called pile of shame I will post mine and hopefully you guys, once the mocking is over, will steer me in the right direction if I have a masterpiece sitting in there somewhere.
How did I find Midlife Gamer well it's through the podcast but I found that completely by accident. I was searching on iTunes for something which I know (mainly because I remember being there when I performed the search) was not Gamer, Life, Mid or any combination of the three words and it took me to the podcast, come to think of it that must mean that I was searching for something that was the title of one of the podcasts. Anyway moving swiftly on listened to episode starting at about 122, listened to about 5 and thought to myself I wonder if I can get the older ones. So now I have about 3gb of MLG podcasts on my ipod and have listened up till episode 52.
Si

Hi Si!
Welcome to MLG That was a lovely introduction! I'd quite like to see your pile of shame Commadore Amiga was my *first* platform, I wish I still had one. I got an emulator somewhere but it's just not the same! What wonderful titles did you have? My favourite was probably Zool, that game was the epitome of awesome!
Take it easy,
Miso x

Thanks for the welcome.
I too went down the emulator path for the Amiga (SNES and C64 too), and it really drove home the 'rose tinted glasses view'.
I was never a Zool guy I was far too busy with James Pond in his Robocod outing.
I do remember playing Lemmings, Another world / Flashback and a whole host of football games that I lost my life to, every game then seemed to be a timesink.
I'll post the pile of shame once I have got it in order (the ocd in me) be prepared that it is huge.
(Note, I have typed that last sentence about 5 times now and everytime it just sounds wrong )

Heh James Pond was also awesome. Bubble Dizzy, Rainbow Island and Chuck Rock were also among my favourites!
Lemmings was ace too but I always ended up getting stuck on the higher levels. I remember I had a christmas/winter? Lemmings trial disk thing that came free with an Amiga magazine (lol) couldn't do it for shit.

Gamertag? that's an easy one on the ps3 it's sistevens (original huh?) on the wii it's some funky number code thingy that I haven't even looked at yet (only about 2 or 3 years since I bought it) and I haven't got one on XBL as I don't have an xbox.
Biscuit and beverage? hmmm that's a toughie. Now my gut is saying that my favourite hot beverage is coffee and because of this my favourite biscuit would be a digestive of the chocolate and caramel variety (the caramel holds onto the biscuit when it is absorbing liquid and therefore no dropped biccys in the cup) but my head is saying "what if you got a cup o tea" well then my favourite biscuit would have to be rich tea (the clue is in the name, you can't dunk these in coffee otherwise it would be called a rich coffee).
Have to go with my gut on this one.
My favourite alcoholic beverage would have to be Bacardi and coke of which I am unsure as to what to dunk into it.

Walker was awesome.
controls were unusual for the time. (keypad to move back and forth, and mouse to aim) Dont think any game before it had used that setup.
Amiga was my first gaming love.
Loom,Beneath a steel sky, Robocod, Speedball 2 Brutal deluxe, Alien Breed…. the list is endless, and I purchased Speedball 2 on the IPod and AB on PSN (when it worked) based purely on that rose-tinted view of the games.
Anybody remember the utter joy that was the 11 disk hop with Monkey Island 2 and Fate of Atlantis?

Hi Si weclome to MLG
That is a very impressive pile of shame. I think it would turn my wife white because she thinks my current pile of shame which is about 8 games mybe is to big and is saying i can't get anymore till i have finished them. But i recon if something comes out i really want i will just get it and put it on the shelf and she will never notice . Well i would have no idea if she had bought a new bag or shoes. I would say Uncharted is the best game you have in the not touched pile and is worth a go next

Welcome to MLG. Feeling you on the gaming time handbrake that comes with family responsibilities.
I loved my Amiga especially sensible soccer, jimmy whites snooker and championship manager.
Maybe when PSN is working again, we can get a few of us PS3ers together for some online multiplayer fun.
