Hello all MLG'er.  I've been listening to the podcast now since about episode 100 and have contributed to the fun via the excellent #MLGQ Twitter feed………………………so, I thought it was about time to wrench myself away from my Xbox and write a few words to introduce myself to the fabulous MLG community.

I am a male gentleman with the mind of a teenager (according to my wife) and the body of a 37 year old father of two.  I have been enjoying computer games of every sort for as long as I can remember from arcade machines, to my first console (Atari 2600) and my beloved Spectrum 48K………..right up to my Xbox 360 and gaming PC.  But this is going to be a very common theme if you're a MLG'er so I think you can fill in most of the blanks.  Many hours were wasted (when I should have been in school) in various chip shops & cafes around Birmingham throwing all my pocket money into arcade machine, my favourites were R-Type, Terra Cresta, Double Dragon, Time Soldiers, Salamander to name but a few. (as I'm writing this I've checked out a few clips on You Tube of these classic games and the memories have flooded back – but I could do with not remembering the awful stench of some of the greasy cafes!)

I am a complete Star Wars freak and needless to say, I played nearly every Star Wars game as I was growing up, the earliest examples of this madness where on the Atari 2600…Empire Strike Back & Return of the Jedi.  This madness has continued throughout my life but has calmed down considerably since George Lucas decided to make a few films about disputes over trade routes. :-/

I also had the 'Space shuttle simulator' game on the Atari 2600, does anyone remember this game?? or was this just my imagination that this was made.

The Atari made way to my Spectrum 48k, then to a 128K, then the usual string of consoles, a bit of a gap when I discovered beer and girls and then normal service resumed with a couple of ninja PC's PS2, PS3, Wii (for the wife) & Xbox 360.

I have passed on the gaming genes to my two sons but thankfully they are both on PS3 so they are not able to kick my ass online as I rarely venture into the Sony realm as most of my online activity is Xbox only.  They are both gaming ninjas especially at FIFA.  I don't even bother to play against them anymore as it's just too embarrassing for me :-(  it's much better if I play on the same team as them :-) They are 15 & 10 years old now, but I think they first properly beat me at a competitive game when they were both about 5 or 6!  This is a very sad and also very proud moment in any gamers life.

My current games that I rot on are COD Black OPs, GOW2 & Battlefield BC2.  These are my multiplayer games of choice for Xbox live.  I also dabble in Steam but my PC is getting a bit crap for the graphics heavy shooters so I have migrated over to xbox to do the necessary amount of online killing to help maintain my fragile grip on sanity.

I also love driving games and Forza 3 satisfies this perfectly as I am a bit of a petrol head in real life. (this is my day job)

My gamer tag on live is 'oo PeatLoaf oo' & Peat Loaf on steam, also 'Jam4brains' on PSN.  I previously went by the gamer tag VestanPance74 but I am a simpleton and kept getting confused when people would call me Vestan so I opted to change to something closer to my real name.  The only excuse I can come up with is I usually like to enjoy gaming with consuming a healthy dose of beer, and this may have killed off the part of my brain that deals with gamer tags.  This You tube clip demonstrates the similarities of the PeatLoaf brain to the Homer Simpson brain. (8_(|)

The podcast has kept me entertained for many many hours and I'm going through some of the older episodes to see how it all started!  Well done Daren and Matt on a fantastic Podcast,  keep those balls going hard & deep.

I am friends in RL with 'the likely lad' & 'I am Woko' so they are to blame for my presence here.  I am also coming to the euro gamer expo so I look forward to meeting some more of the MLG community. smile

I think this will probably do for an intro, so all that's left is…………..

biscuit = chocolate digestive

drink = lager (but I'm also fond of bitter, ale, porter, cider & fine quality whisky)

sauce = red (but if there is a fried egg involved then the sauce can only be brown)

Thanks for the welcome. I hope to be on live later today for some well deserved gaming time but work keeps getting in the way and keeping me from my necessary online slaughter!

Wow I'm impressed with your intro, most of the time these days we're lucky if we get more than a grunt off the newcomers, never mind an insight into what brought them here ha ha.  Well done!  You'll have loads of good fun with the 360 community on here I'm sure and if us PS3ers could ever tempt you to kick your kids arses off the lovely shiny black sexy console and get you to join us online at some point, we'd make you very welcome too.   Have fun!  smile

That's right brother, twitter is where it's at! I'm all about the twittering & twatting. Follow my random musings as I try to stay awake during mind numbing & tedious meetings at work and the occasional rant about my arch enemies…………..members of the public! >:-(

Sorry, the podcast prepared me too well………..

But you're welcome to ask me any random questions if it will help fill the usual gap at this point (as long as it's not to do with shaving)

I need to replace my sons PS3 as it is over heating. So I will get him a slim and repair his old one. I will then put this in the lounge hooked up to the main TV…………….as a 'Blue Ray player' and definitely not as a gaming machine! ;-)

Well that's how I intend to sell the idea to the family, it's worth a go.

Fuck me I only just realised that I haven’t said:

"Welcome aboard the good ship Midlife Gamer Peatloaf!"

I'm intrigued to know more about your ‘day job’ as you mention that you’re a petrol head.

Did you get to have a go of the Forza 4 demo yet?

I have to say that its been a long time since I gripped a controller that hard! I had a go with that ‘Rivals’ mode and ended up spending half an hour trying to beat a time set by a guy on my friends list – quite elated when I finally beat it!

Oh, and it was great to meet you at Eurogamer…I’m sure I detected aMidlandsaccent in the few words we exchanged!

Did you stick a friends request out to ‘amidlifegamer’? It might sit pending, but you can view its friends list.
