Hey everyone, my name is Paddy and I'm new to midlife gamer and after listening to so many podcasts have decided to go balls deep and sign up! I'm a physics student at Queens University Belfast and I'm currently playing  lots of stuff including the Mass Effect trilogy (near the end of 2) and Dark Souls on 360, Syndicate and Kingdoms of Amalur on PS3 and after a recent sale Final Fantasy V and VI on PSP. Look forward to posting away and making new friends!

Hi Paddy

Welcome to MLG it's good to see some new people on here and How are you finding mass effect i really loved 2. What are your thoughts on Kingdoms of Amalur because i have heard some mixed views on it.

Here is the most important question of all and this needs careful thought because you will be judged on it

What is your biscuit and beverage of choice

Also fire a friend request my way if you want

Thanks for the warm reception guys, feels great to be on MLG and I'm looking forward to posting more in the future.

To Bob Lord of Doom, I'm loving the Mass Effect games. I previously played one and two but traded them in and now I own the whole trilogy as one set. So far it's just as good as when I first played. I've mixed feelings on ME2 as they taken away many of the rpg features I liked in the first, such as being able to customize each character's gear and weapons and having more stuff to spend points on (like weapon damage, why did they take that out!). However I love the story, lore and dialogue more in ME2, not to mention the action in it is just outstanding! At the moment I'm just being a completist and searching the galaxy for raw materials and credits for upgrades. I'm also engaged in a romance with Miranda who promised to visit my Shepard character later (gotta keep it human wink). I don't know which ME is better, but I'm looking forward to play ME3, despite the dodgey ending!

As for Kingdoms of Amalur, it's a really good game. It's not quite on the same level as the likes of Skyrim but it still has some great moments. The best way to describe it is WoW quest style (loads of quests, large map and xp for completing quests), God of War's combat style (magic has it's own fighting style through staffs, sort of similar to Jade Empire if you ever played it) and Fable's charm (although not quite as funny). Overall its a good game that is just a stone's throw away from being great, which is a shame since the studio went bust. Since it is going cheap these days I highly recomend it. I've played it for about 10 hours and barely touched the story! Just being running about doing side quests and generally exploring.

Now for the important part! I enjoy a lovely piping hot cuppa tea. My biscuit of choice, a ginger snap, tastes better when dipped in tea.

Here are my profiles for psn if you want to add it (not sure how to get those tags everyone else has!). My live account is silver for the moment (debating on wether to get gold since I don't like paying for it when psn is free) but add me if you wish.

Welcome Paddy!

Kingdoms of Amalur still sits (un)proudly on my pile of shame…and I even have the sexy hardback guide for it.  Off to hang head in corner.

Make yourself at home at MLG towers and wallow in the best damned gaming community out there smile

Welcome aboard the good ship Midlife Gamer, Paddy!

Physics student? I guess all that gaming is part of your research eh? wink

Ginger nut biscuit and tea…..I thought students lived on a diet of potatos, cider and pro-plus (well, I know of a few that did, including myself!).

I keep hearing a lot of positive stuff about ME2…maybe I'll get my arse in gear and get it ond day…and I've heard that an updated ending is on the cards for ME3 and it'll be FREE*

*So long as you've purchased all the DLC for ME3 thats been released!

If there are any games you fancy hooking up online with fellow Midlife Gamers, drop a thread in the Multiplayer Meeting post and you never know who might turn up!

Thanks Adamski, truth is I live at home so I get to eat all the lovely food my parents make, but I do enjoy a nice heavy drinking session (so long as I don't make an arse out of myself!). As for physics unfortunately gaming gets in the way but I did get to make ice cream using liquid nitrogen and it was pretty dam tasty if I say so myself!

Nope just vanilla frown we were giving it out to school kids so I don't think we could do beer ice cream although I'm curious to try it out sometime!
