Hi there, my name's Alex, office jockey in the big smoke aged 29. Not sure where else to go (Sounds like online dating, whoops!) but tell you about my warped my path to this community!!

My first experience of gaming would be (Thanks to my father) an orange binatone console and a Toshiba MSX (How things have changed!!!). I then had the pleasure of owning a Sega Mastersystem 2, an Amiga 32Bit, Sega Dreamcast and then the Original Xbox. I did think that would have been the end of my gaming life but then I was introduced to the 360! I was sold by playing TC Rainbow Six Vegas online (Not the best I know but it was the online experience)!!! Here I am now, unfortunately not online as much as I would like to be but that'll be changing soon…

I was introduced to this site by my old landlord and recent 360 convert zegalini. Before venturing onto the site I did listen to the podcasts and have had many a laugh. I am now working my way through the back catalogue of podcasts.

My gamertag is Maj0r Ringsting, feel free to call on me if you need a ringer!

Welcome aboard the good ship MLG Alex!

Ooh, I think my grandad used to have one of them…but I think it was the Grandstand one (probably the same thing).

Good solid history of gaming…if you get that 360 bad boy online, bounce a friend request to the gamertag "amidlifegamer".

Whats your genre of choice at the moment?

I'm up for most things apart from sports games! My current gaming tipple is Halo:Reach. What about yourself? I seem to have an abundance of games I've started but not finished like Mass Effect and GTA 4. I've unknowingly become addicted to getting gamerscore!

Friend request is coming down the line!

Aah, I've not long finished Reach…had much more fun on the Multiplayer side than the campaign…not saying that I didn't enjoy it, but it was a bit of a grind to get finished. Although, I think thats because COD BLOPS was putting me under some pressure to be played.

I found the same with GTA IV…I wash rushing it towards the end.

But I'm determined to take my time with Fable III…going to enjoy the Britishness of it as best I can.

I know the feeling of trying to rush to the end!! I always seem to get my a55 handed to me on Halo multiplayer games so stick to co-op! I will one day complete those singledom beasts.

I quite fancied getting involved with Fable 3, I tend to lean towards co-op games, doesn't 3 have a better co-op than 2? COD BLOPS has yet to be purchased, but with Christmas around the corner….

BrotherBrown…. as for biscuit and beverage…….. standard combo is choc digestive (Milk not dark!) with a stewed tea, made with full fat milk not white water that people call 'skimmed' and if things are going to pot, chuck 2 sugars in!!!! Stay frosty.

that's what i like about this community, never a moment goes by when someone turns up with an old console i've never heard of before… a SEGA DREAMCAST you say, sounds like a real niche machine wink

welcome aboard the good ship MLG and i'll hopefully see you on line soon(as soon as i get my gold account up and running)

Welcome, eater of manly biscuits and drinker of manlier tea! I prefer some black Earl Grey with a Garibaldi myself, although I'm not particularly gay, and I'm definitely not a dunker.

Forgive me if I'm not making sense but I've been shovelling snow most of the morning with nothing more than one of the kids' Oreos to sustain me.

Amiga 32 bit, like the awesome CD32 maybe? Cannon Fodder perhaps? The really buggy sequel to Elite perchance? Or the FMV navigate-em-up that was Microcosm? What a machine!

Tigerdom, I cannot believe you've never heard of the Dreamcast? Ever heard of games like Shenmue, Crazy Taxi or Ready to Rumble boxing?? Well, there consoles I haven't heard of either. To be honest, the Dreamcast for me was shortlived as was it's lifecycle in general I think. Look forward to seeing you online!

Jurassic Prinny, good ole Garibaldi! Indeed it was an Amiga CD32bit!! Cannon Fodder was a great game, I still remember the first 2 men you got who were 'Jools' and 'Jopps'. I aimed to keep them alive all the time but failed dismally! Microcosm, had the demo but never the full game! There was one game for it that freaked me out and that was Darkseed, totally bizarre, never completed….

Alas, I shall return to the reality of Xbox live and crack on trying to save the universe!

Tigerdom - Well I certainly fell for that hook, line and sinker! smile

Currierox – fellow gamer, I was a former Spaldonian! It's good to see this site has reach the vast spaces of Lincolnshire! When I'm back online I'll fire a request off!

*** Distress Call ***

I would appreciate some guidance! I'm about to lay my old elite on the counter to trade in for a brand new shiny one! I have used a dongle to transfer my gamer profile and games, however, at the end of transferring it stated I may need to downloa content licenses!!!! I have seen in a forum on xbox.com that I needed to log into my profile and somehow go to past downloads etc. Are the licenses not linked to my gamer tag? Am I wrong to assume that only transferring my gamer profile and save games to a dongle is enough?

Any ideas guys?

I've read that all I need to do is transfer from the dongle onto the new xbox, download something new and this then creates a new license path. I then use the Content Licenses Transfer tool (on Xbox.com) to transfer my licenses from the old 360 to the new and voila, I'm ready to to roll with viva pinata!!!

Does this make sense?

It sounds like you fixed it as your were typing the distress call, but here's my take on it from personal experience.

I bought a new elite (just before they announced the 360 squat) and used the transfer cable and disc to transfer all my content to the new elite. All good, no problems.

Fast forward six months later and I take my Elite to a friends house, fire it up and get ready to play Rock Band. Bear in mind that I am not connected to XboxLive at my friends house. We build up a set list, but get errors before the first song. Mmm…? I also noticed that all of my Arcade games had suddenly become TRIAL games and not FULL games. Curious.

I had a rant on twitter and @XboxSupport responded within 10 minutes giving me a link to the license transfer page on their website.

So the next day I went to the xbox.com, filled all the stuff in regarding license transfer and then connected my Xbox to Live. It did some downloading (I think), but I was still having problems.

I ended up going into my Download history and systematically re-downloading each and every item, one by one. That did the trick. A ball ache, but it worked.

As I understand it, DLC (games, add-ons etc) is locked to the CONSOLE. If you connect to XboxLive though, it overrides this. Basically to stop people getting stuff loaded on their console via another profile.

So when you get a new console, you need to re-download everything to it. But, it doesn’t download the whole file…I think only the data for the license.

I’m sure there are others out there who can give you a more detailed explanation, but that’s my understanding.

welcome matey, if dom hadnt heard of the dreamcast then this will scare him lol………………

i started with the sinclair z80, then moved on to the zx81!! i then had the zx spectrum 16k, but the lack of power saw me opting for the 48k ram pack lol, missed on the plus but then got the spectrum+2 with tape drive lol

then a scary time with women and cars saw me ditch gaming for a while til the megadrive lured me back!! then the 32x stuck in the top , swiftly followed by the megacd, with games like nighttrap!! stupidly swapped it all for an amiga!!!!! from their , ps1 then ps2 then xbox 360, i swore blind i would never buy an xbox but all my online freinds made the switch and i sooonnnnn followed lol

Many thanks Adamski and Steevieb for your assistance!

I have managed to transfer successfully although I recovered my Gamertag from online rather than transfer it from the dongle. I am the owner of a brand new shiny 360! Can't believe how quiet it is compared to the generator I was using before!

Steevieb – Wasn't there a game called 'Tomcat Alley' on the mega cd? There's no going back with the 360! You made the right decision.

Happy gaming!

christ i cant remember !! i remember that virtua racing was arcade perfect on the 32x!!, but i think doom was a step forward on it too? really cant remember what i had on the megacd? i think thunderhawk was one?

oh and mine was the early megacd, big box that sat under the megadrive, not the later side by side model

Steevieb – I don't remember the mega cd being under the console? I know the Megadrive 2 was definitely side by side. That's some old school stuff! Glad the tech has ramped up from then.

Zegalini – It was only a matter of time! I was sold on the Podcasts. Hope all is well in La Praz!!!

AfterBlaster – The request is beaming down the wifi lines.

Alright Ringsting nice to meet you buddy (go team 18-30s).

Jools and Jopps wow now thats a blast from the past, I wonder were they are now. Well I hope they've managed to kick on, an their personal trainors now or at least stacking shelves, just as long as their not in a wheel chairs being really angry like Tom Cruise.

Welcome and you can have a Happy New Year too, treasure it till next year.

Vintage-Lofty – Tom Cruise angry, good film. I would say that as Jools & Jopps were the first to be deployed in action on that game that'd be running around the old peeps home on that well deserved army pension! Never KIA, always MIA!

CherryScones – Clotted Cream or Margarine???

Does anyone know where I'd get venue dates for gaming conventions in the UK for 2011 or is there a forum on here for that?

Cheers!

Tame? Sheesh!

I can't say I've been tempted to get a shiny slim PS3! The 360 got to me first, I think Sony missed the boat???!!! I have thought of getting a PSP for commutes but that's as close as it gets I'm afraid!
