Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself, found MLG via the podcast a few months ago, must leave a sexy review soon.
Would describe myself as midlife to past it gamer!!
I'm old enough to get a free Parker pen so have a long gaming history. Started playing slot machines in arcades like the torpedo game, shark attack, pinball was always a favourite ( still is) and an old game where you had to shoot a biplane that went from one side of a cabinet to the other on a wire, you used a machine gun and when you hit the plane it would dive down with flashing lights and crash, I think it was called rear gunner.

I have owned most consoles and some early home computers, no Sega ones though sorry to say.

Lived in Banbury Oxfordshire till 2001 when I moved to Filey in North Yorkshire.

Currently own gamecube, xbox, wii and a 360 plus IPod and iPad.

Gamer tag is steve zodiac. IOS game centre is stevezodiac1

Play most types of game, favourites are driving games, rpg, pinball sims, sandbox games, occasional shooter.

Feel free to add me.

Hey Steve,

Tell me more about your experiance with pinball sims. Are you talking about console titles or have you gone down the dark path of Visual PinMAME, Hyperpin and the like?

I'm going to be doing a review of Willaims Pinball Classics soon but I was also thinking about doing a feature story on different virtual pinball platforms and how they hold up to the real thing. Let me know if I can twist your ear on a few items.

Hi Mate

Welcome to the boards.

You haven't mentioned your biscuit and beverage of choice. Please let us know as this is essential for your initiation!

I'm getting on in years myself but I have to admit I don't remember the 'rear gunner' game you mentioned.  I remember shark attack and the torpedo game tho.  Happy days.  I also really liked Boot Hill if you remember that?

I'll send you a friend request in a few mins when I fire up the 360.

Re. Godd Todd.

I have tried the visual pinball available on the net, but it is a bit too technical for me! It seems to crash on starting or I got no sound effects ect.

I will give it another go as I found a tutorial on the net which seems straightforward, I'm using windows 7 now so maybe it will be easier than vista.

Console sims I like include pinball dreams on the amiga and its follow up fantasies, these are still available on psn network and Ios including an new hd version of dreams for a couple of quid.

Nintendo game boys had some good pinball as well, kirby's pinball land is excellent, the pokemon pinball games on gbc and gba and also sonic pinball party which had three tables, a sonic one, samba de amigo and a nights table.

On the Ds you've got metriod prime pinball, also of note was a table on dsiware shop, Pinball pulse the ancients beckon.

I nearly forgot True pinball on the ps1, four tables on this one I think.

I've got Williams pinball Classics on the 360 and it has some great tables all worth a go, the challenge mode is well done and hard because you cannot save between challenges, its fun reaching the goals and unlocking tables. When you complete the challenge mode you get an achievement worth 100 points and unlock the last table which is an old classic table!

I look forward to reading your review, it gets the thumbs up from me.

Almost forgot pinball fx on 360 and zen pinball, loads of tables to enjoy here. My favourite is one of the first tables Agents. Had some really high scores on Fx but lost them when the old xbox failed.

Cheers

Favourite beverage, tea of course a little milk and no sugar.

Biscuit of choice………..hmmmmm………….digestive lightly dunked in above beverage. Oh yes!

I don't have a copy of bulletstorm, tried the demo though, battlefield 1942 on arcade is my favourite shooter, straightforward fun and big enough maps to hide like a girl when things get hot!

Yes I remember boot hill, when you died you were put in a coffin and a tombstone came up on the screen, an early video game around the time of pong and ariel combat if my memories correct.

Steve,

Since you have a Wii and a 360, I might recomend checking out Williams Pinball Classics (Just recently released in UK, and Gotlieb Pinball Classics.)

The Wii version is kinda cool because you can use waggle to nudge the table.

But the 360 version of course will have better graphics, at least on the Williams game.

Welcome aboard the good ship MLG Steve!

Great username….takes me back a bit (you don't walk around with strings attached to your arms do you? wink)

A great gaming pedigree…yes, I remember that Biplane on a wire game…and BootHill!

I'll bet you had Tin Can Alley and that game that had a shooting range with a clear front, full or ball bearings that you'd fire using a spring loaded gun?

How about Twitter? Are you on there?

Oh, and are you going anywhere Earls Court in September this year? I hear there is a party going on!

Steve Zodiac was my favourite character in the 60's, he had a love interest called Venus, a robot called Robert who started smoking when he got stressed and a rocket ship on rails (literally) called Fireball XL5. Check it out on YouTube.

Never had tin can alley, used to drool over those toys in mums catalogue, I never looked at the lingerie section…honest! we used to have spud guns and used to be able to buy a toy rocket which you stuck a cap in the top under a spring, you threw it up and when it came down it went bang. Oh the memories lol.

Sorry I'm rambling.
Now where's that old catalogue gone??
