*****************************************

**MEET UP DETAILS**

The Rummer Tavern, Cardiff

Wednesday 2nd November

1800Hrs Onwards

http://www.therummertaverncardiff.co.uk/

Meet and greet fellow Midlife Gamers and enjoy a few drinks in this school night get together

(Remember to let your boss know you'll be good for fuck all on Thursday)

******************************************

Anyone fancy a pint?

From various discussions in other threads it seems that there are a fair few of us populating Wales and SW England. Having seen how much fun all the MLG members who were able to attend Eurogamer had, I wondered if anyone was interested in doing something for a few hours one evening in the Welsh capital e.g. Find a pub, drink some beer / lager /soft drink if you're driving, eat some crisps / nuts / scratchings and talk games (amongst other things).

I've just received Dark Souls in the post so could probably fill the entire night up simply describing the different ways I've been horribly mutilated.

Thought it would be best to try and tie a day (possibly a date?) down first just to see what's best for everyone.  Automatically thought near weekend but I know some people (Norfolk Jesus for one) are in the area in the week so perhaps a Wednesday would be a nice way of breaking the working week? Current thought is end of Oct / start of Nov depending on MLG availability.

What say you fine people? Does this idea have legs? If so, leave a reply and your preferred day and we'll go with the majority.

Also a school night would probably work better for me – but I don't mind planning something a little more spectacular for a Friday / Saturday

I'd be up for that – mid week works better for me as I'm back in Norfolk most weekends.

Name the date…early Nov preferred for me.

If it's a Friday or Saturday then I'd be up for the trek across country.

That's if you'll have me! smile

Count me in.

I'm in Bristol so it's a relatively short journey to pop over the bridge for a MLG meet up.

Surely Disco has to be up for this? A return to home soil and all that.

Sounds pretty tidy to me. If we are going to make an evening of it on a Saturday, my band might be playing and as long as you don't mind classic rock some of you might want to come along to some kind of hostelry where we will be plying our noisy trade.

Matt doesn't live far from me and occasionally we go out and do drinking. I can assure those of you that haven't met him yet that he doesn't bite. Well, at least anywhere you can see when you have clothes on.

'Diolch yn fawr' for your replies, the level of interest is great particularly from those willing to travel many miles to share a pint with fellow gameheads!

Lots of ideas too, it sounds like there are several reasons for organising more than one get together over the coming months in the general area.

Looking through the posts, I'm thinking perhaps an informal midweek beer fairly soon and then perhaps a more sustained session on or over a weekend to make it worth the while of those who have to come from afar.  And definitely involving wassiratti's band!

However, think I may end up using a year's worth of free passes from my wife and kids if I disappear for the weekend (or at least end up with a 3 month sentence of house cleaning and nappy changing detail frown) so someone else may have to pick up the reins for that idea?…

Re: the midweek meet – how about a Wednesday night and how about 2nd or 9th Nov?  Thinking centrally, the Rummer Tavern has space to sit and chat, nice atmos with a good selection behind the bar.  It's also right next to the Castle so easy to find.  There are also some nice pubs along Cathedral Road but they're a little walk out of the centre.  If required, there are at least 3 Wetherspoons pubs that I know of but that'll involve having to talk to heavily inebriated old Welshmen (in addition to myself!)

Any other ideas gratefully received as my Cardiff pub knowledge is a little sketchy.

Rummer is an excellent pub, and the food is nice and cheap

I think this is a great idea, and a midweek meetup would be great for me as i predominantly work weekends. I'm only an hour away on the train from Cardiff , but that means I'd either possibly have to leave early or find a bench to sleep on somewhere smile

I'm in for either the 2nd or 9th November, definitely. I have no idea on where the Rummer pub is though - is it walking distance from the station? My knowledge of Cardiff is limited to the fact that it's in Wales.

Rummer is 10 min approx  once you leave the station and get onto the newly pedestrianised Mary St. Right opposite Castle (and, less importantly, next to a Subways!).  Sort of in the gap where Queen St and Mary St. meet.  Black fronted pub, sort of a mock tudor thing going on.  Find it here:

I didn't realize there were so many MLGers in Wales. Im in swansea so can catch a train down any time. Weekend of the 5th and 12th of Nov is bad times. Anything else is a goer.

D'oh pissflaps I can't make a midweek meetup as I'm down in deepest darkest Cornwall. If it is a weekend though I can mosey my way up the M5.

Yeah, just checked out the train journey.  Takes me two and a half hours to get to Cardiff.  That's me out of a midweek meet-up!

OK, gonna go for Wed 2 Nov and the reason is gaming related.  Anyone who has preordered Skyrim might get an early delivery and that would create a serious dilemma for them…Dragons or Pork Scratchings?wink

No one seemed to mind the Rummer as an idea (those that know it!) so that's the venue, see my google map link on an earlier post to find it if you need directions.

Timewise, let's say 'whenever you can get out of work and depending on how far you are travelling from'.  Food is fairly cheap there so I might go there for tea 6ish onwards…

Hope anyone who can make it can come along, it'll be my first time meeting the friendly MLG community so be gentle with me.

Appreciate there are a lot of people who have expressed an interest but who can't come due to timing and location BUT….

CHECK OUT DISCOBEAVER'S RECENT FORUM MESSAGE and support his efforts at setting up a 'balls deep' beer AND game meet up for early next year.thumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upthumbs-upawesome

And why would you, unless you were traveling to brecon and really needed a shit, there isn't any reason to stop or visit.

Of course boasting broadband speeds of nearly 1mb and edge mobile connection its easy to see why i based my digital marketing business here.

They do a killa corn beef pie though.
