Hi folks,

Sorry about the radio silence but the day job has had me travelling all over the place for the last few months….

Should be back for a prolonged period of time so can dedicate some of it back into the comic club.

My plan would be to set a book for January in the next week or so, giving anyone interested the chance to pick it up early.

As an aside, I recently found an artist (friend of a friend thing) who produces fantastic bespoke comic artwork by commission at incredibly reasonable prices. He has a business page on Facebook called "Garry Robertson Fan Artwork"

http://www.facebook.com/GarryR…..FanArtwork

I recommend taking a look. the drawing of the Flash was for a buddy of mine and I have to say, it looks even better in real life!

Keep an eye out here for future updates

Games I had a look at the guys website that's some talented guy his artworks superb.

Locke and Key, don't know much about it other than hearing good things, if it gets picked I'm up for that.

Has anyone been reading the new Batman story arc?? Death of the family, its shaping up to be a good read.
Scott Snyder has brought the Joker back to destroy The Batman buy going after his close Bat Family.
It's spread over 3 months and includes Batman, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Nightwing, Catwoman, Suicide Squad.

This is my first foray into digital comics and although its handy quick and easy to use, part of me misses the physical comic in my hands, I think that's why I normally get Trades, my town doesn't have a comic shop and newsagents won't order in comics because we're unreliable apparently and won't buy every issue. So I think I'll use my iPad for storylines but I will never stop getting trades.

Hi All,

I am happy for the January book right now so that peeps can get organised over the Christmas period.

I too have heard nothing but good things about Locke and Key so it seems like a no brainer….

Volume 1 is available at Amazon for £12.15 delivered (http://goo.gl/IPLLQ) or from Forbidden Planet for £10.34 but delivery might be charged (http://goo.gl/S0KY2)

Enjoy your reading and we can chat about it at the end of January!

Cheers

Stevie

I just got an iPad recently so I've been catching up on my comic reading big time.

Thanks for suggesting American Vampires. I'm really loving it. Skinner Sweet is such a great character.

I'm about to start on Lock and Key, I'll post some impressions about that as I get into it.

BTW, has anyone been reading CHEW?

That is a damn funny book. Really colorful characters and great stylized artwork. It's great to to find a book with such a unique vision. And the letters section looks like it's been put together by crazy cat ladies to boot.

I totally want to go as Agent Savoy for Halloween next year.

If you have a Kindle fire Locke & Key vol 1 is only £2.84! That's a steal!

So what books are in the running for February? Aside from re-reading Locke & Key, lately I've started reading CHEW and also continuing to read Swamp Thing (New 52). Can't wait for the new arc of Dark Tower comics out soon. Also been thinking about giving Hellboy a go.

I have always fancied Chew but never got round to reading it, my first thoughts were either Saga Volume 1 (Award winning Sci-Fi series) or The Manhattan Projects: Volume 1.

I am however open to suggestions!

All of the above sound good, but also had "The Boys" on my to read list for a while. I like the idea of superheroes being recklesss, out of control & a menace to society.

Volume 1's going for £6.99 on Amazon at the moment.

Chew and The Boys are great picks. Both are very funny and irreverent. It's a tough call for me as to what I would suggest. Chew is smart and witty and The Boys is a bit more base in it's humor. Chew cranks up more progressively as the series goes on and The Boys starts off over the top and maintains at about the same level.

If you were to make me pick only one comic for us to read, I'd pick Chew because I think it's the most rewarding series to hang with in the long run.

But if you were to make me pick on the merits of the first volume only, I might just go with The Boys because I think the story arc of issues 1-6 is a bit more self contained.

I got my pick of American Vampire so ill leave the recommendations for a while.

I only started reading comics about a year ago and The Boys were the first comics I got, I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone, I was really gutted to hear its come to an end.
If you like you humour dark and a little gross at times then this is the comic for you!!
like GoddTodd said the first trade is a good story in its own right but gives you foundation for the bigger story.
I'd be more than happy to read the first trade again if it got picked, in fact I am even if it doesn't get picked.

I've heard good things about Chew on podcasts and on forums so I'd not be adverse to trying this out, it's on my to read list anyway so I'm game!!

I think CHEW seems to be getting a fair bit of support, so I think its basically picked itself.

Goddtodd, I like the sound of your suggestion so that might be the front runner for March….

I just found out that the Clairmont/Miller Wolverine Mini-Series is being made into the next big Wolverine movie.

See trailer here:

I think we're about due for a Marvel Comic as our Comic Book Of The Month.
What do you folks think?

Looks like you can get it for less than six quid on Amazon.

Ok I think i'm getting addicted to comics… This time last year I had 2 subscriptions; Dark Tower and Swamp Thing. Within the last few months I have added 6 more to that and have plans to add a few more later in the year.

Here's what I've subscribed to recently (in addition to Swamp Thing & Dark Tower)

Constantine

East of West

Jupiters Legacy

Ten Grand

The Wake

House of Gold and Bones

Waiting for Pretty Deadly and Trillium to start later this year smile

So is this too much or is this normal fare for someone who is into comics?
