So we had a splendid evening of Starcraft II and I did a game as an observer with a little light hearted commentary.
Gives you an idea of what goes down most Sunday evenings if you fancy coming along.
Its only 20 minutes and stars Antman, AlteredEgo, Tilt and Donye and contains bad words such as vagina and mother bastard so apologies in advance.
Its the first time I have tried commentary so be gentle

Pure quality mate! fantastic stuff. To keep that level of entertaining banter during a fairly non eventfull game is damn impressive stuff. Will be on SC2 tomorow night (tuesday) if your up for a few games and of course, sunday night will be the big meetup!
Can comment my games anyday

Fraps for capture and Adobe Premier Pro CS5 for rendering… it was awesome 720p but then Youtube wouldn't let me upload a 20 minute video (Since when?!?!). I used some crappy freeware to split it and it lost a lot of quality.

Ahhhh it was about a 2 years ago when youtube used to have a 10 minute limit on videos, then increased to 15mins.
Unlimited length was given to those special few *ahem*.
Nah basically it was anyone that had a youtube account long before the change was upgraded to "Director" status and could upload whatever they want.
It is a bit balls really, that is why my account is like gold dust.

I've watched this a few times now, and still makes me laugh. Doyle FFS.
Think there is a want to step up the casting a bit, as we get the quality better and the production values higher.
As you have probably realised the commentating is the quick part and the post production takes an absolute age.
What I've found really helps is to cast it. (means you have to get a bit better prepared as you commentate the replay rather than the live game) but if you use justin (or twitch as its now known) you can export your casts to Youtube from there, and still maintain quality. The webcam stuff, overlays etc can all be setup in xsplit as well so your casting looks a bit more professional.
I'll not be limiting it to SC either, if we get a co-op gaming night on, we could do that as well. I have pretty great up speed so I dont mind casting at pretty good quality and you can enable the skype chat in it as well.
Oh and in that game I think T1lt could have beaten the 2 of us by himself…. lol

Aye casting is the way forward however I am hamstrung by my feeble upload, just waiting on fibre optics to come to Camborne.
Speaking of quality, myself and Chris were chatting briefly last week how it could be achieved:
Chris' manly upload is more than ample to cast in 720p, the overlays can done in xsplit quite easily.
As for commentary, it takes someone pretty special to solocast a game and keep it interesting so 2 people would be desirable in the hotseat.
Linking in the last post's point, commentary over a replay which both commentators have that are started simultaneously, audio input coming from the caster's mic and skype for the buddy. Skype should provide adequete quality, many podcasts use it to record.
Covering other games is a good idea, rather linking in the entire skype party rather than commentating. I released a couple of minecraft vids with a party about 9 months ago. Games that have a co-op oriented style rather than competitive may work better as a better picture of the whole scene can be shown instead of ducking behind a wall for cover.

seen those Minecraft vids. I think they work well as you get a great sense of the community from those, and exactly what makes it fun.
Of course not everyone will watch it, but increasing the video content coming from the site can only be a good thing.
Any interest in Trackmania 2?
As it seems Starcraft is the weapon of choice to start, if anyone has a replay they want to share of a game they lost, and want to know how to why, we could work off that. I'm going to try doing that myself.

trackmania 2 is a good idea…. I loved the first game and i imagine the second would be great. I can record vids on fraps but it hits my FPS a bit… Not got the same sort of raw power you guys have.

T'is true I've got the grunt for recording, just uploading is the slow part.
Casting is also heavily stunted due to my average upload of 700Kbps.
Trackmania 2 could be good though.
