At the moment i am using an old laptop as my computer died.

My other half is now buying me a new computer to replace the 5 year old one i had, as that is the kind of man he is.

Some of the specs are:

CPU: AMD FX-8 8320 Piledriver 3.50GHz Eight Core CPU

Graphics Card: AMD HD Radeon 7850 1GB GDDR5

Looking forward to it.

Pretty sexy rig for a nice price! I'd probably switch the cooler for a heftier one and the HDD for an SSD but i'm that kind of loser lol. I'm interested to see how win8 behaves for you, as i'm not convinced about the OS yet. The metro side is a great touch OS, but i'm yet to play with it on a daily basis

Is onboard sound now as good as a soundcard? are there any advantages to paying an extra £20 for a dedicated souncard or is it wasted cash?

On board sound does the job well enough. Dedicated sound would probably be better if you have the speaker setup to support it.

I haven't had compatibility issues with on board sound for years now.
