The chosen book for October is The Crow by J. O'Barr
Amazon Link - http://goo.gl/mwDMw
A tale about the nature of evil and the power of love. It centres on a dark angel who literally rises from the dead to avenge a gang of thugs who brutally killed him and his fiancee on the eve of their wedding. This is the graphic novel that inspired the hit movie "The Crow".
I hope everyone enjoys the book and lets be having your opinions!

Good call on this comic. It'll be interesting to see what people make of it compared to the movie. Some of the movie obviously had to be changed to accommodate the passing of Brandon Lee (read the making of books to find out more), but things like the whole "Funboy" death scene are almost shot-for-shot lifted from the comic.

Really enjoyed the movie but never read the comic. Best get my order in!
EDIT – decided to plump for the 'Special Edition' paperback which was same price on Amazon. Apparently the comic version of a 'director's (or writer's) cut'. Only problem is that it's one of those 7-13 day delivery options. Makes you wonder if they actually have the stock. Hope so as I'm eager to get stuck in!

For any other misers like myself, the special edition is just under a tenner on the book depository at the moment, also says it should be dispatched within 48 hours.

EDIT: Price has just gone up from £9.60 to £11.04 within seconds of me ordering it!

I'm running a little late this month chaps so I called into Waterstones today to buy a copy over the counter (the old fashioned way) but they didn't have it! I'll try Smith's tomorrow, I've been looking forward to this.
While browsing Waterstones I did see loads of 2000ad collections that would do us nicely though, Judge Dredd, Nemesis The Warlock, Bad Company etc…

Blimey, just got round to finishing this. Could only read in segments due to its intensity.
Having bought the special edition I was able to read the forewords and really get to grips with how and, more importantly, why the comic book was written. Anger, frustration and the search for forgiveness surge through the story but The Crow still has many moments of bittersweet tenderness between the violence (which just makes the main protagonist's loss all the more painful).
This is no book by numbers (with the art styles leaping about as much as the story) but one about extreme loss, forgiveness and the long and painful process of healing.

Sorry folks – I have been so busy travelling for work that I have lost sight of this….
I will get a December book picked from our backlog and get it publicised in the next week or so.

I've finally finished the Crow now, took me about 3 attempts to finally get into it, but glad I persevered.
It certainly wasn't an easy read for me, but certainly a worthwhile & powerful one. The foreword helped a lot to put it in perspective for me, had never appreciated before that it was such a personal story to the author.
