Confirmed, and again.
"…spastic is used widely in the U.S. as a casual word for clumsiness or to describe someone who is overexcited"
"In American slang, the word spastic is often shortened to ‘spaz."
That's pretty much how we used it when I was a kid too. 'Spazzing out' was also popular, as was 'having a spaz attack'. Could it be the Americans just don't know where the expression comes from?
On the other hand, maybe we're in the wrong here. Maybe this is disability discrimination, and we should be welcoming this Spastic Transformer with open arms? Who are we to say a Spastic can't be a Transformer?

It's gonna get a name change in the UK to SCOPE apparently, which isn't much better seeing as that's the charity for spastics.

I would call mine Christy Brown and he'd transform into a footballer who'd have tremendous left foot (I know it's not much of a transformation but he's disadvantaged).

It depends when the Transformer was produced I suppose. The public perception of words changes over the years, as Azrial pointed out that The Spastic Society changed it's name to Scope. I also fondly remember the mention of the Dundee Cripple Club from those crazy fellas at Inretrospect. I also have a mild form of Spastic Colon, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome as it is now called.
So if it was produced about 30 years ago, Spastic might've been a fine name for a Transformer, although it says it combines with another Power Core Transformer. What would it combine with, Flid?!
