Turtle Beach Headsets – Advice please

It's my birthday soon (getting even more ancient) and I was thinking of getting a gaming headset.

Does anyone use the Turtle Beach 360 headsets?  If so what do you think of them.

I've been looking at the X31 and the X41, other than the price (which doesn't matter the missus is paying!) is there any discernable difference in sound quality (I guess you can only answer this if you have used both?).

Should I be considering any other brands/models?

Thanks

When I played on my 360 I used a set of X40. I absolutely love them! There was a slight hissing noise off them when at a games main menu, but that soon went away when the game started so I didn't mind.
There's not much difference from what I heard in the X40 & X41, but now I'm on my ps3 all the time, I've now got a set of astro A40's. They are simply breathtaking! No hissing, and the sound is fantastic!
I think I paid £230 for the headset and wireless mixamp. Money well spent.

I use the PX5 with my PS3 and they are worth the money, especially for late night gaming sessions!

I've been rolling with a pair of X31s for the last year or so, and can heartily recommend them. I play mostly FPS, and they are indeed the canine's testicles.

I will also recommend the Astro A40's with Mixamp. Not the cheapest you could buy but I always say you pay for quality. I went for the wired version because I don't trust all this wireless malarkey.

Yeah occasionally your voice cuts out and we get intermittent noises, kinda like a buzzing sound every few seconds.wink

I'm also a PX5 owner.

They cost a hell of a lot but they sure are nice!

I especialy like that it has two bluetooth chanels so you can play multiplayer on the PS3 and listen to your iphone at the same time.

My biggest gripe about the PX5's is that if you want to play multiplayer on the XBox 360 you will need to keep handy a special cord that links the phones to the XBox controller. It seems right stupid to pay that much money for wireless headphones and then have to use a wire to connect them to a controller.

But at the end of the day, they do sound real nice.

i dont think it is the headset what is messing up as discobeaver has the same ones unless you have wired the wrong or something is giving them interference  as i had that problem before with my ps3 wireless headset

I Imported my X41's before they were available in the UK and have loved 'em ever since.

Yes there is a slight hiss when there is no sound playing but as soon as the music or sound effects start it's not noticable at all.

The surround sound is fairly damned accurate (I am now useless without them in FPS's!) and there is a good depth of sound with the bass boost & stereo expander button active.

The X31's are also a decent set, much the same sound quality but without the surround. (Yes I've used both.)

You do get occasional echo from other peoples headsets but it's not major and very rare. Also some mention interference from other wireless signals, mine are less than 3 feet from my router and I don't get any.

The worst thing about them is that when the batteries die you get a very loud blast of static which has made me shit myself a few times.embarassed (batteries last a good 15 hours GET SOME RECHARGEABLE AAA's!)

The PX5's are obviously the better choice but don't go for the "special" XP500's, they're just PX5's in green with an extra dongle that cuts out the wire between the headset and pad. (Godd Todd This is available seperatly  at about £25, probably $30. This works out cheaper to buy the PX5's plus the dongle!)

Astro's are fantastic, but bloody expensive (£240) compared to £80 odd for X41's.

Shop around on the net and you should get a good deal.

Also look out for the new Tritton (Don't let the Madcatz lable put you off, they bought Tritton) Warhead set coming soon, xbox branded and completely wireless.

The wireless works a treat.
