I'm yet to try 7, but from what I've seen of Vista, I'd want XP s so much.
Whats the deal with windows these days?
Is 7 for gaming?

It depends on your PC really.
Do you have a multicore processor or more than 3GB of RAM?
If its an older PC, XP would be the way to go.

Sounds like you aren't aware of any killer reason for going to windows 7, so why not go back to XP. Have read reviews that 7 is better than vista, but that's hardly a ringing endorsement when you read that thousands of businesses still use 2000 pro and XP.

If you've got a decent duel/quad core PC with good speed and ram and a good graphics card that can handle DX10, go with 7, it's a million times better than XP or Vista and can handle games much better, if your PC's a few years old or maybe due an upgrade, then stick with XP, I'm running 7 and would never go back now.

7 is what Vista should have been in the first place. It's faster (even on a lower spec PC) and compatability's much better.
XP's really starting to show it's age.

XP would be fine, but Microsoft is intentionally leaving it unsupported for new releases when it would probably handle a lot of things better than Win 7 due to less bloatware.

I'm running Vista, it hasn't crashed since SP1, performance is fine on my laptop (1.5GHz core2 duo, 2GB), I can play L4D and Fallout 3 (not at full detail, but without problems).
It ocassionaly asks me to confirm actions that require elevated privileges, but I learned computing on Unix systems (back in the old days) so that's not a problem. I'm not paying ninety quid to upgrade to a system that'll give any old virus privileges just because I click on it.
I do have to manually resize windows if I want to see them side by side but, again, more than 20 years experience in various wimp environments has prepared me for that. Excuse me if I don't throw ninety quid down the toilet for that little time saver.
XP – Small, fast, insecure.
7 – Vista, with enough bells and whistles to distract you from the fact that it's Vista.

I thought 7 was more for the laptop's sake really. The less powerful processors and lack of RAM really ground many a laptop to a halt under Vista.
Vista is quite bloated, but if you've got some oomph under your hood, it won't slow you down.
My PC is probably about 2 years old now and hasn't crashed on Vista since SP1. I can still run 90% of released games on max settings.
What is your issue with Vista? Performance or general handling?
