Thousands of avid gamers will be descending on the town of Telford between the 30th November and 3rd December to take part in Insomnia 47. With late opening bars, an exhibition with over 50 exhibitors on site, a huge selection of games to play as well as a multitude of competitive gaming tournaments, Insomnia 47 is set to be the largest edition yet of the UK’s biggest gaming festival.
The competitive tournaments that will feature Insomnia 47 announced thus far are Star Craft, Counter Strike, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, League of Legends, World of Tanks and FIFA 13 with many others still to come there really is something for everyone.
Originally starting off as 50 gamers playing off a single 10mb switch – over the course of 14 years, 120 LAN events, £420,000 in prize money and over 85,000 people coming through the doors – the Insomnia LAN is now a staple part of the gaming calendar with some of the biggest esports tournaments in Europe and the UK qualifiers of the World Cyber Games taking place.
When Insomnia was first launched in 1998, the main emphasis was purely put on the low latency aspect of gaming. Now that latency isn’t the primary reason to attend a LAN party, Insomnia has evolved to celebrate gaming in all of its forms from the casual to the competitive with huge gaming areas, industry exhibitions, live final arenas and streaming video coverage included in the make-up of Insomnia.
The social aspect of gaming is not forgotten either with the I-Series Pub Quiz, The Boat Race and the I-Series raffle all taking place over the course of the weekend and as such, in the near future we will have an interview with one of the Insomnia Community Managers.
